NO WAY SHOULD YOU USE SYNTHETIC OIL IN YOUR BIKE.
Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.
This is from a Honda service manual. The bigger bikes like yours get the 10w40 or 10w50.

Yeah that first solution was way off. You can tell that guy reads too much into the books. The mototech guy is right. Never use car based oils in your bike. That's why you have two plugs to drain the oil. One is for the engine oil the other is for the gearbox and wet clutch. There is no dextron etc. "transmission fluid" for bikes it's run off the same motor oil, and YES! any mechanic will tell you that synthetics like AMSOIL are better for your bike than a regular non-synthetic that breaks down a lot easier in heat. Which brings me to my next point I live in Florida where it gets pretty hot and i use AMSOIL synthetic 22W-50 in my Honda VTX.
DO NOT ever, ever use car based oils in your motorcycle. i have been a certified a tech on motorcycles for over 15 years and people still don't get it.......cars have transmissions that use a different and separate oil...most all japanese bikes do not...the trans and the motor use the same oil and car oils do not have the shear additives required for a transmission...if you're going to give advice then tell the truth...i seriously doubt your Honda owners manual recommends pennzoil, or quaker state or etc. it recommends honda oil because it is made for motorcycles and not cars. !!!!!
I've ridden MC for 35 years and have operated air cooled Triumphs to liquid cooled K75s......I've never had any trouble using ANY oil in ANY of my machines. My 250 BSA loves the 20w50 Castrol GTX as does my VTX1300. My Beamer K75 ran much better on 10w40 even though Beamer insisted it have 20w50........My Bonneville likes full synthetic Castrol 10w40.........the main thing is "Do Your Oil" annually if not sooner. Oil today is BETTER than it's EVER BEEN and it continues to get BETTER.
as for "Energy Conserving" or "Detergent" oils I'm no expert but if you've got your heart set on burning out your clutch and blaming it on the oil then that's your thing. Good Night and Good Luck.
