My bike (2008 Keeway Superlight) has 23500 kilometers (about 14600 miles) on it and recently i ran into a major problem. It started to choke, die, losing torque ONLY in FIRST gear. In the rest of the gears it runs just fine. i tried changing the piston and piston rings, new spark plug, new and different oil (i usually pour Motul 7100 10W/40 in it now i poured Motul 5100 10W/40) i also partially checked electrical installations, i got completely new clutch, i delivered the carburettor to mechanic and he said there is nothing wrong with it and im running out of ideas. Did anyone have a similar problem or does anyone recommend to try something else? Thank you all for answering.
If you put the choke on does it get better or worse, and have you checked the valve clearances are right.
Switching choke lever on any of 3 positions makes no difference, except i cant start the engine with the choke off which is normal considering its very cold currently at my town. Yes i also checked the valves and i tuned them a bit (0.10mm intake, 0.15mm exhaust) still no change. I would like very much to tape it just so you can se what exactly is happening but i have to think of a way to do it cause im really getting desperate
Oh yeah, ive also torn the engine in half to check if any of the gears snapped or dislocated or something like that. Nothing. Perfect condition. The bearings are perfect, everything is well lubricated and on simply perfect order, so i guess nothings wrong with the gearbox itself.
it does sound like an odd one ,have you tried a new spark plug gapped right ?
yes. i checked. the gap is 0.40mm if i remember good
did youn try a new plug though ,they can look ok but break down under laod, and does it have a side stand switch fitted to the bike?
you * load* :)
that IS a new plug in it, but i did try several different plugs and still the same thing happens. no it doesnt have side stand switcher.
where in the world are you ? i could have a look at it but i expect your miles away?
Croatia...
mmmm im in england so it might be a bit awkward.seems odd that its only 1st gear that its bad in i cant think of a reason that could cause that .have you tried making the gap very small on the spark plug, just enough to see a gap and get a spark.
Yes i even messed with the spark gap trying to male it bigger or smaller just to see will it do anything at all. Nothing happens. I mean it didnt Fix the problem but the bike ran different which is expected. My opinion is that the problem is either CDI or ignition on the halo-sensor... Maybe even coil doesnt fire right... What would you recommend to check first?
Its pretty bad weather here so i cant even film the problem even though i got an idea about how to do it
the thing is an ignition problem will not only manifest in 1gear it will be in all of them.sometimes it can be worse at lower revs but still it woulb be like it in all the gears.
well then it looks like ill have to write to Keeway directly then cause im all out of ideas
can you record it and post it on youtube .just post a link to the video on here
and are you sure the valve timing is correct wth both valves closed fully and the cam timing marks lined up with the flat surface of the head and the crankshaft on top dead centre.
yeah im 100% positive that CAM timing is correct along with the halo-sensor
