Hi, If you have not already eliminated these: Check for (1) head gasket damage:(Open water reservoir, rev engine... bubbles may indicate a head gasket leak) (2) Sticking or damaged thermostat, blocked radiator : (3) Fan not running .. normally only required in traffic (slow speed) or during idle. Finally, and rarely the case, the engine is too far advanced (timing) but this requires an electronic diagnoses and fix rgds Kim

Is the water flowing freely thru the radiator?
Is the radiator fit on its outside, and not damaged?
Have you checked the thermostat in boiling water?
Is the thermostat pointing the correct way?
Is there air in the system?
Is the system boiling?
You can get coolant that transports more heat away from the engine.

Firstly, is your fan coming on? Should kick'in between 103-110 max.

If no, then check you have no air trapped in the water system which will stop circulation and make your water boil. If the system is bled properly and still no fan coming in then check the fan switch.
If your fan is coming on and still overheating after a while then you could have a water pump problem. Worse case you have a blown gasket which can usually be identified by checking the oil for cream and will also produce continuous smoke from exhaust. If theres cream looking oil rather then brown/gold then poss head gasket or could still be water pump seals....

Water pump? In what situations is it overheating? remember they all get a little warmer when at slow speeds or in traffic with warm weather.
If not, see if the radiator is not clogged up or full of "mud".

Tyres are easier to fit and remove with levers if they are hot, as the rubber is more supple, this is how I do it. Let all the air out then place the wheel flat on the floor, stand on the sidewall of the tyre to break the bead seal, put the wheel next to a hot radiator if possible for about 30 minutes then get your levers under the tyre bead roughly at 4 and 6 if the wheel was a clock and press them down on the rim until you have the section of tyre between the levers on the outside of the rim, leave one lever in place then move round passed the lever about 4 inches and insert the other lever under the bead and pry it over the outside of the rim, keep doing this until it is all on the outside, once you have one side done turn the wheel over and get the levers between the tyre and the same side of the rim you just released one side of the tyre over and pry the second side of the tyre off.

I have seen cars where the bottom hose on the radiator sucks in under acceleration and stops the coolant flow, the solution was to make a wire spring using a broom handle. This stops the hose closing shut but if this is the issue a better quality bottom hose would be a better solution.

Sounds like the fan isn't coming on. Depends on what conditions you get the overheating. Are we talking sitting in traffic or fast motoring?

If you changed the thermostat you may need to change the line that the cooling is going to as well. Either it's a slow leak or you have something that's clogging it. Check that line set too

Too many possibilities. You could have air in the system. Run it until warm, check the radiator, fill if necessary, repeat. Is the fan working? It should spin when it gets hot. Is there oil in the water or water in the oil? Bad head gasket. Check all and call later.

I'm guessing you have checked the fuses are all ok...my guess would be trapped air in the system, bleed it fully and try again

hopefully its just a thermostat but worse case its a head gasket check cooling system by having it pressure tested. If your vehicle has been blowing white smoke it is a head gasket for sure

I have a 2001 nissan sentra 1.8 with 158,000 miles. Problem started a month ago,no heat while idling but when revved up or driving would have heat. Changed thermostat, bled system from bolt above thermostat...

unfortunately these engines are known for this condition and for head gasket failure.with engine cold pressurize cooling system with spark plugs removed.look down into holes with flashlight after about ten minutes.....im betting youll see a puddle of coolant on piston...usually its cyl# 2 or 3.i cant think of any other possibility for system repeatedly airlocking other than a head gasket.good news they are probably one of the easier ones to replace.

Car is over heating. Alero 2001

If you changed the hoses and thermostat and the car is still overheating, then the next thing to look at is the water pump. See if the water pump is leaking water from a vent hole. If it is, then the water pump is defective and will need to be replaced. Sure hope this helped.

Have very little to no heat in my 2001 venture van do you think its possible to be the head gasket or just thermostate

The thermostat is a good place to start if the only problem you are having is little heat.
Before you start removing the stat, check the following things:
-is the coolant level full?
-is there coolant leaking onto the ground?
-are the heater lines that run coolant into the cabin hot?
-is there excessive white smoke coming from the exhaust?

if the level is full and there is no leaks or white smoke, and the heater lines aren't very warm, then change the thermostat....but be careful when you fill the system back up with coolant. there is a bleeder valve on a black post on the water pump housing that needs to be opened to get the air out of the system. if your van has rear heat, which most do, the air will be harder to get out. a good trick that often works is to take the hose off of the bleeder tower and fill more coolant up there. also drive the van a about 5-10 miles and the check the coolant level. do this a few times until your heaters (front and rear) are throwing good heat.

be patient with the bleeding of these, it takes some time.

2003 Nissan Sentra Problem overheating and heater doesn't work.

does the car overheat at idle or travelling down the road? if the thermostat was not changed, thats first step. checking it is replacing it. possibly air-bound. then i would suspect a headgasket problem.
