Drain the engine oil. Remove the case on on the left side of the engine. The stator is inside the case. Be careful with the wires to the stator, be sure the routing is as the existing.

SOURCE: 2004 Suzuki VL1500 Intruder LC Motorcycle backfire

If they cant duplicate it your good.Usualy with backfiring i would make sure to eliminate any exhaust leaks. The dealer is inexperienced at solving compound problems,(sorry) not picking a fight, but sometimes cleaning is not goog enough,I went through this with a 1400 Intruder.several attempts were needed to get the two carbs level on the same line with each other.so the floats would work properly together, then set fuel flow and the air flow through the ventouri in the carbs. Also i had to make these adjustments while level (not on side stand) The floats were very sencitve to needle valve to seat adjustment(bent to open or close some of the flow)

SOURCE: suzuki intruder 1500 LC I have problem with

Intruder carbs are notorious for this issue. What you have going on is that the needle seat has become worn out. The problem is, that this carb was designed with pressed in needle seats that cannot be removed. You will need to search online for an intruder carb rebuilder that can press in the seats for you, as well as change the seals, replace the needle, check the diapragm and jets, and replace/clean the floats. OR, you can try to find new carbs online from a wrecked or used Intruder 1500 VL.

SOURCE: how to adjust clutch 1998 Suzuki VL 1500 intruder

The clutch on this model is hydraulic and is 'self adjusting", if the clutch is slipping the plates are worn out and in need of replacement. This information comes directly from the factory service manual.

SOURCE: How do I replace the

To replace the battery:

1- remove the rear (passenger) seat by removing the single bolt behind it. Remove the seat by lifting it up and back

2- Remove the front (driver's) seat). Remove the two bolts behind it and remove the seat by lifting it up and back.

3- Removing the seats will give you access to the battery under the driver's seat.

4- Carefully remove the positive and negative battery cables from the battery, then lift the battery straight up.

5- Place the new battery in the bike

6- Replace the cables, red is positive (+), black is negative (-)

7- replace the seats, and you should be good to go!

SOURCE: 2003 Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC REAR DISC RATTLE,HOW DO I REPLACE IT?

Hello Dale, this is an easy job on your bike. Use a flat head screw driver and remove the brake pad cover...it will pop off.
Remove the hairpin type clips off of the ends of the brake pad pins.... Use pliers & pull the brake pad pins out from the front of the rear brake caliper....Clean the rear brake caliper's piston with brake cleaner. Use a rag and wipe it clean...Reinsert the old brake pads into the caliper. Place a pry bar between the brake pads, then push the inner piston into the caliper body, this will allow room to install new pads.... Remove the old brake pads...Coat the brake pad pins and the new brake pads metal back plates with high-temperature grease.

Slip the new brake pads into the rear brake caliper, then push the brake pad pins halfway into the caliper. Slip the spring clips into place between the brake pads and the brake pad pins. Push the brake pad pins completely through the rear brake caliper. Push the hairpin clips back into the brake pad pin tips. Snap the brake pad cover onto the top of the rear brake caliper....

Pump the rear brake pedal until the pedal feels firm, indicating that the brake pads have closed around the brake rotor...No bleeding will be needed because the system was never opened - That's all there is to it...i hope this information is helpful & good luck with your bike.

Could be the stators & regulator/rectifier if its over charging the battery. I'm not a mechanic just saw this video on youtube cause I'm having problems with my electrical system as well and trying to figure out the problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWU2TbEePsY

Suzuki intruder 1500 charging system

You need to buy a volt meter and set it on 10, or 20 v-. Start the bike and see what it says. A good charging system will show 13-14+ volts. If the meter says 11-12 volts or does not change, you have a bad stator, or rect/reg. Take to a shop to have it further tested. Chaz Moto DC

2002 suzuki intruder vl1500 not charging battery

Check the voltage across the battery with the engine running - it should be greater than 13.5V.
If less, then you have a failure in your charging system, either the stator and/or the Rectifier/Regulator.
See this personally authored diagnostic guide on how to determine which part is defective. Also has a recommendation for excellent replacement as opposed to std OEM.
