Is the bike key yhe only key? or do you have bunches of keys on the ring? The connector sounds like it's messing with you.. I doubt it's the ignition itself. Check the wiring connectors coming from the ignition switch and the any wires running under your but, Just in case your bouncing got one that was run between the seat and something that would hurt it. (the wire) not your ****. Good Luck.

That's a strange one. The only things I can think of suggesting are:

  • Clogged gas cap vent. The next time is starts running poorly, remove the gas cap briefly and see if things improve. If so, then the cap is not venting as it should.
  • Moisture trapped in float bowl. Drain the contents on the carburetor float bowl into a clean container and check for dirt, rust, water, or anything else that doesn't belong there.
  • Dirty fuel filter. If there is one, replace it.
  • Air leak between carb and engine. Check tightness of clamps and manifolds for cracking. WD-40 sprayed around those areas with the engine idling will help detect any leaks.
That's all I can think of. Please let me know if any of my suggestions fixed it.

Sounds like it is possibly the cam sensor. It is located under the round cover on the lower right side of the engine. The cover is held on by 2 rivets. If this is indeed the problem, you will have to re-time the bike after replacing the sensor.

What does it mean when riding an ultra classic motorcycle when it gets hot going down the road it shuts off

Sounds like a main circuit breaker problem. There was a service bulletin for a breaker upgrade.

Harley-Davidson Service Bulletin M-1151: Main Circuit Breaker Replacement~Purpose: As recently advised in ML-390, Harley-Davidson has determined that a defect exists on certain 2001-2003 FL Touring and Police model motorcycles. These motorcycles have a condition whereby the 40 amp main circuit breaker could open due to reasons other than for which it was designed, causing an unexpected interruption of all electrical power. This condition could cause a “quit while riding” situation, which could occur without warning and lead to a crash, thereby presenting a risk of death or injury to the rider.

This Harley-Davidson safety recal (code 0113) affected to the following motorcycle: Certain 2001-2003 FL Touring and Police model motorcycles, including FLHTCI, FLHTCUI, FLTRI, FLTRSEI-2, FLHPI, FLHPEI and FLHTPI, assembled/shipped from the York, Pennsylvania assembly plant between May, 2000 and September, 2003.

Idle to high

Hello john... the 08 has Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)...before you turn the engine off, let it idle down a minute, then turn it off with the key...not the kill switch. make sure you dont roll the throttle any after you shut it off, or before you hit the starter..this is easy to do, specially if you move the bike before/after you start it...The ETC memory will retain the last position.
Heres a tip for ya and something else to be aware of that the 08 FLHX has is Engine Idle Temperature Management System.
The shop manual states:
If you are twisting the throttle forward (roll-off) for 3 seconds or longer it could be activating this.
you can do this while going down the road and it will change it while running.:
For those riders who frequently find themselves in riding conditions where the vehicle is subjected to prolonged idle conditions or traffic congestion, the motorcycle is equipped with an (EITMS) to provide limited cooling of the rear cylinder.

When the engine is in EITMS operation, you may notice a difference in idle cadence. Additionally, there may be a unique exhaust odor. These are both considered to be normal conditions.

Vehicles are delivered from the factory with EITMS disabled. EITMS can be enabled or disabled by the rider using the following procedure.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the motorcycle)

2. Push the throttle to roll-off position and hold.

3. After approximately 3 seconds, the cruise indicator lamp will either flash green (EITMS enabled) or red (EITMS disabled).

4. Repeat the procedure as needed to enable or disable EITMS

There ya have it, hope this helps and good luck with your bike..please rate me a fixya.

2008 Street Glide - Reduced heat rear cylinder shut-down feature

this is explained in the owners manual. 3 conditions have to be met in order for the Engine Idle Temperature Management System to work. 1. speed must be below 2k/hr 2. engine temp high(exactly what i forget) 3. operator must roll back throttle to negative position until "cruise on" light is green. This indicates that the EITMS is on. Vehicles are delivered from the factory with the EITMS disabled. It can be enabled or disabled by the rider using the following procedure; 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the engine OFF/RUN switch on the right handlebar to the RUN position(do not start the motorcycle) 2. Push the throttle to the roll-off position and hold 3. After approximately 3 seconds the cruise indicator lamp will either flash green(EITMS enabled) or red (EIMTS disabled) 4. repeat the procedure as needed to enable or disable EITMS

Trans shifts very hard after 5 minutes of stop and go traffic

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Some possibilties, not all!
