SOURCE: '04 volusia still shutting down
I would recomend checking to be sure the fuel and vacum lines n the tank are installed correctly, Open the fuel filler and start the bike and see if it has any change on the problem, if so you have a vacum issue.
SOURCE: The bike runs for almost precisely 15 minutes, then dies
it may not be the coil. i got a bike that didnt run right, it came with box of spare parts and about 5 extra sets of coils. when i was talking to some buddies about what my bike was doing they told me that it was the coil. then i was talking to another buddy that used to work on motorcycles professionally he told me to check the points. I checked and adjusted them and now it runs just fine. so what i am trying to say is check your points before buying new coils.
SOURCE: bike runs bout 15 min then gauges dim and bike dies
i am having the same prob with my bike. when i ride it , a short time later the gauges dim and it dies shortly after. but bikes dont have alternators "mate" they have stators. there are 3 things in your charging system... battery, stator, and reclifier. if your battery is good i would take your bike and have the stator and redlifier tested. but i replaced all three and mine is still doing that so i thing my negative battery cable is shorting somewhere. charge ur battery and then test the volts on it it should be around 12.6v, and then disconecct ur negative cable from ur battery and wrap it up so it cant touch anything and come bak the next day and test ur battery again. if ur volts dropped thats ur problem

Overheating. The raditor coolant or the cooling fan is'nt working corectly the engine should be as hot as it's going to get in 5 minutes then the therostae opens to start keeping it at the same temperture if the coolant or the fan can't keepit at this temperture it'll not restsate till it's cool enough to be in the safe range agin. Some times not changind the oil often enough can case this problem too low coolant and the fan not working all can cause this after finding the coolant system problem and fixing it change the oil as it'll be ruiened from the overheat. Low speed hotrodding and stop and go traffic can trash the oil and just a few hot runs acan make it need and oil change as the oil fails at high tempertures and the oil is an important part of the cooling system as it's cooler beng clean and in the air flow. As the oil cooler doesn't have the benifit of a fan sitting running and hotrodding at low speeds will heat and kill the oil then after the oils killed then it'll overheat case the oils bad.
SOURCE: Is it an Engine Coil Problem
coils can expand and lose internal connection when hot.you can test the coils cold and then heat them with a heat gun and see if you loose continuity.
