The problem is the starter motor vauxhall zafira 2.2 petrol the engine will turn over but its making a sort of wining noice as if its not teeth r not conecting to start engine over also smells of a burning it has a brand new battery on so im confused now thinking i might have diognosed the starter motor being the cause plz can u tell me if i am right or wrong have two different starter motors to change over just in case

I am not that familiar with vauxhall but starters are pretty universal it sounds as if starter is not engaging flywheel all the way either because of aexterior shimming problem during assembly or if this is something new without anyone disturbing original starter it could be solenoid that engages starter pinion to flywheel getting worn out and not engaging all the way or I have even seen where the teeth were not exacly the same angle or even count on a new exact fit oem replacement starter all of which could cause your symptoms
