650 - Resetting Oil Change Indicator
(The Owner's manual is not very clear on this)

  • 1) Turn off ignition.
    2) Hold both the SELECT and RESET buttons in.
    3) Turn ON ignition
    4) After 2 seconds the indicator to change oil should extinguish.

How to shut off the change oil light when you change the oil
The instruction are on page 112 of manual (link to PDF below)
Driver Controls (Oil Minder)
Reset oil life mode
To reset oil minder when the vehicle oil is changed:
1. Press the MODE button repeatedly until one of these three
messages is displayed; OIL LIFE XX%, CHANGE OIL SOON or
CHANGE OIL NOW.
2. Press and hold the MODE button for 5 seconds until RESET FOR NEW OIL LIFE is displayed.
3. Press and hold the RESET button for 2 seconds. The oil life value will be reset to 100%
Note: If the RESET button is not pressed after one minute of no activity, the original oil life will be restored.
Note: If power is interrupted during the reset oil life mode, the overhead console resets the oil life to the original value

Oil light is on and engine in limp mode
check the oil level in the sump, coolant level, coolant temperature (overheating), transmission oil level if auto. The limp mode is energised by any number of sensors that register a fault that is detrimental to the engine/ gear box. Run the fault codes and repair any faulty units . Reset the CPU with a scanner .

Hi, need to know how to check transmission fluid and gear oit?
I could write down the chapter in the service manual for you and soon you would be lost, or, you could go to YouTube and search "Burgman 650 Transmission Oil Change" and see how the pros do it. I reccomend adding it to your favorites list as it is not done very often and a refresher is good for the second time you do it. Change the oil and filter plus the rear drive oil while you have the covers off.

When i changed oil i forgot to follow the corect proceedures,so now i reading in dashboard of my car . change oil soon . later i follow the proceedures in cataluge , but same sentence appear pls. advise
this light is triggered only by miles. you will probably need to go to the dealer to reset this light. in the meantime try this: 1. Turn the key to the "ACC" position which is the notch that allows power but doesn't turn the engine.
2. The display will read change engine oil soon - hit the display button(i) and the display will read 0% oil life.
3. Hit reset button (the check mark button) for 5 seconds and the display will change to 100 % oil life.
4. It may not work the 1st,2nd,3rd .... attempt , but will work eventually.

Change oil light reset?
Hi Shady, here is the procedure for resetting the light.
Resetting Procedure Follow this procedure to reset the GM Oil Life System™
  1. Turn the ignition to RUN, with the engine off.
  2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
  3. If the CHANGE OIL SOON light flashes, the system is resetting.
  4. Turn the key to OFF after the light has finished flashing, then start the vehicle.
  5. If the CHANGE OIL SOON light comes back on, the engine oil life system did not reset. Repeat the procedure.
With Trip Computer
  1. Press the MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.
  2. Press and hold the RESET button for three seconds. The oil life percentage should change to 100 percent.
