Most newer mopeds have a suction valve on the gas tank . It has one hose line that gets vacuum from the engine and the other line feeds fuel to motor. Pull the fuel delivery line off at the carb and crank the motor over, if fuel comes out while cranking it is good if not replace it. Fuel will not come out of line if its not cranked over is normal.

How to get a motorcycle to start after sitting for years?

If it was stored like most people store them the carburators are probably full of varnish. You can start by tearing them down and soaking them, I use laquer thinner to soak them and it really works good. Don't leave it on plastic or rubber parts as it will eat into them. While carb. parts are soaking, take out the plugs put a little oil in the cylinders and crank it over a couple times. Put the spark plugs in the wires and ground them to the head and see if you have spark when you crank it over. If you have spark good, if not the points, or electronic ignition will have to be looked at. Take the point cover off and clean the point contacts. Blow out the carburators, paying peticular attention to the jets (orfices) if they are not completely cleaned out it could cause you to burn a piston after you get it running. That is the most of it I could sit here and write a book, but I am assuming that you know to put gas in the tank, put a battery in it etc.

My 1987 Dodge Raider has been in storage for 4 years. My problem is it will turn over but will not start. However if I pour a little gas down the carburator it cranks right up.Were do I start trouble...

If you know where the fuel line comes into the carburator, disconnect it and try to crank to see if there is fuel coming out, could be the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator or even the fuel pump itself, check the filter first. Good Luck.

Hi i have a firebird 1985 i purchased 2weeks ago and i try to start ther is no gas going to carburator but if i put gas on the engine start it is posible the fuel pump is the problem

Could be a number of things. Whenyou turn the key to the on position, do you hear a noise coming from the gas tank? I would check this and the fuse (maybe relay too) before the next step. Could also be a fuel filter, Crank Position sensor, etc. Let me know what you find out.

Where is fuel filTER

Hi:
There is only one line (tube) that goes from the gas tank to the carb. If there is a fuel filter it will be on that line. To check if it is plugged just pull the line off where it attaches to the carb. If you spill gas, that is not the problem. Replace the line and be sure to clean up the gas. Sounds to me like a carburetor problem, though.
