When this has happened to me, it turned out to be a hole or crack in the fuel line. At the higher revs, more fuel is needed. The added "suction" for the higher demand pulls air into the line and the unit does not have enough fuel to run. Check for that first and also the fuel filter inside the tank. The filter might be clogged as well.
Keep us posted,
Dan

Clean or replace the fuel filter. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Check the muffler for plugging of the screen. Be sure to run with fresh fuel mix and to shake the container thoroughly each time just before filling the tank to prevent oil starvation. Hope this helps!

Check for plugged fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Check the chain for proper oiling and not so tight that you can't turn it by hand. Hope this helps!

If gas is leaking from the carb, can you see if it is a damaged fuel line with a leak or coming from the carb itself. If it is the carb tighten the screws on the carb itself. If neither one is the problem you probably do need a carb kit installed. Hope this is helpful. Best regards and good luck.
