Take the engine apart and you will find out.
Quite possibly will need new piston kit and a thorough cleaning and you'll be fine.
If you're unlucky, main bearings, and cylinder coating repair.

SOURCE: 1998 KTM 250 exc. Loosened oil level bolt and wont

Chances are that the prior owner pretty well stripped the case threads. The gray aspect of the oil is water emulsified in the oil. The two usual causes are a bad water pump seal or condensation in the gearbox. The metallic part is bothersome. Somewhere, something is wearing badly. The site below has two factory service manuals available for free download. One is 2003 the other doesn't say the year. Either should be able to answer recommended oil quantity and oil type. Consider changing filters also. Please rate my answer. Thanks! tombones49_23.gif

MetAL SHAVINGS ON DIP STICK

metal flakes on the dip stick are not really an issue unless it has gotten to the crank sensor. That would cause the problem that you are talking about. The oil filter is supposed to catch that though.

Transmission whines then stops working after a few minutes of operation. fuild level is fine.

Drop your transmission oil and check for metal shavings, if minimal remove the pan and replace your transmission filter and fluid. Sounds like a plugged filter causing low pressure.

What could cause metal shavings in oilpan 2003 altima 2.5?

metal on metal contact is causing peices of your rings or cycinders to be scraped away. these pieces circulate and because they are heavier than oil they sink to the oil pan as shavings

Metal shavings in the oil of the differential whats going on ...

The metal shaving in the oil in your diff is a bad sign, you should not have that problem if your car is new and under warranee, if the proble is within your warrantee period, take it to service.

The metal shaving in the oil indicateds your pinion (input gear) to your ring gear (driven gear), the shims may be too tight or the bearing might run out of true, therefore the intermeshing of both gear teeth is too close causing high pressure point on the tooth and wear, the metal shaving is either your gears or could be your bearing that is no longer within limited, this is a serious and sould be fix immediately.

The oil in the diff act as a seal, cool, lubricate and wash of the gears and bearing. It should not be like that if your car is less than 150,000km.

It makes noise when it is hot because the heat expands the metal parts causing them even close together, as a result too tight = rapid wearing. Stop driving and get it service or else you are looking for a new diff.

Cheers and good luck

Wont start

Hi,

Oil from the breather is an indicator of compression bypassing the rings. This causes sump compression.
Cause of the problem is worn rings.
You need to conduct a compression test, if the compression is low then rings are probably the cause of the bike not starting.

Cheers

Jon
