This could be any number of things. First consider the most obvious. Change the rear spark plug. Then check the compression in the rear cylinder. If compression is low, it could be a valve sticking or a piston ring wore or a hole in cylinder. If compress is alright, rebuild carbs. I would check out options in a row. I don't think it could be a be the stator or regulator. But it could be. Those would need to be checked out by dealer. Hope tis helps.

hi your carbs need rebuilt if you bought the bike with the cobra pipes on it an aftermarket jet kit has already been installed after time the aftermarket needles wear out and or wear out the emulsion tubes. i had the exact problem tried every thing coils, igniter box etc. check out GMAN INDUSTRIES. Did you sync the two carbs? If not the rear may be getting all the gas from the rear carb and none to the front. Twist throttle engine off and see if front carb cable is pulling the carb open.
Also unscrew the spark plug boot from the front spark plug wire and trim 1/8th inch off the wire and screw the boot back in. The plug wire end may be corroded on that wire.

If they cant duplicate it your good.Usualy with backfiring i would make sure to eliminate any exhaust leaks. The dealer is inexperienced at solving compound problems,(sorry) not picking a fight, but sometimes cleaning is not goog enough,I went through this with a 1400 Intruder.several attempts were needed to get the two carbs level on the same line with each other.so the floats would work properly together, then set fuel flow and the air flow through the ventouri in the carbs. Also i had to make these adjustments while level (not on side stand) The floats were very sencitve to needle valve to seat adjustment(bent to open or close some of the flow)

2002 Suzuki Intruder Motorcycle, garaged. At random will start BUT backfires, misfires, electric flashes on and off then engine dies and stays dead. Dealer is stumped.

There are 4 version of the 2002 Suzuki Intruder Motorcycle. Please always include full 'year make model (size)'.

It sounds like you need a new dealer! All the bigger bikes have a diagnostic port.

Likely to be a sensor involved in ignition, or the ECM itself. It does appear to be a known issue.
