There are 2 fans on your motor , air con fan comes on when the air con is switched on. The engine coolant fan comes on when the motor reaches operational temp, around 85 to 95 degrees . there is a heat censer on the engine block or radiator that controls battery voltage to the fan. with a volt meter check both sides of this censer for battery voltage, with the engine hot. replace if faulty.
10 to 15cm fro the fan motor you have white plug disconect that and conect black - to your batery +to the next and see ef your fan working ok before this check your fuse than the motor 3th radiator fan switch or replace it.
Join the wires together at the thermal switch, sending unit and the fan should come on, as you have bypassed the switch, if it does work then replace the switch, poos clean out radiator
The good thing is your fan is working. Now , why do you think it is running hot? Is it boiling over? If not , you just have a gauge that reads high. Most Honda fans do not turn on until the needle is licking the red on the temperature gauge. If you are running hot you might want to try an antifreeze modifier like "ICE". Keep in mind a lot of Honda gauges get more inaccurate with age.
The problem is usually not the fan motor but the switch that turns it on and off. There are two switches located either on the radiator or on the thermostat housing . The single wire switch is the temp sender. The one you want is the two wire switch that turns the fan on and off. Once you locate the fan switch you can jump the fan to test it. Unfortunately, the switch is usually about $100, the fan is $300 to $400.
Well, this is a water cooled bike. Few things can cause this:
1.) Low water in radiator.
2.)Dirty blocked clogged radiator fin openings, or clogged inner radiator with rust and sludge.
3.) Electric coolong fan not working- could be temp sensor, fan relay or fan motor itself.
4.) Worn radiator pressure cap.
