Sounds like the clutch release is not seating smoothly and fully. Operate the release very slowly (preferably out of gear while static or can you put it in 6th while its off? and see if there's any stiction in the clutch release mechanism.Maybe the clearance changes in 6th gear but i cant see why it should.

Testimonial: "thank you is a start... I also discovered when I was changing the cable that the two washers and the bearing in the clutch pushrod package were bad actually the bearing was destroyed.. all of that was replaced.. and it did it again today.. do you think the clutch spring plate might be bad even thou it looks fine"

It could be. How are you adjusting the clutch rod in the primary? Loosen the jam nut and screw in till it bottoms out, then loosen one full turn and lock the jam nut. Then you'll need to adjust your clutch cable. Make sure that you don't take all of the slack out of the cable. There should be room enough between the clutch lever and clutch perch to fit a nickel between the two when it is adjusted correctly. If the clutch lever has no "slop or play" in it,then the cable is too tight.

2008 Harley Davidson FLSTN Softail Deluxe. Why does my bike want to die when I come to a stop only but runs great when going up and down gears?

The first thing to try is putting a couple of fuel tanks of injector cleaner (properly mixed) through the injection system.

Also clean the IAC (idle air control)

On two seperate occassions, my 1988 HD FXRS seemed to lose power suddenly on the freeway - It went from 70 mph to 15 mph without shifting down from fifth. I attempted shifting through all gears but nothing...

The latter part sounds like insufficient play on the clutch lever--the clutch seems to be slipping. Sudden power loss is usually linked to the ignition system. Have you checked the lube level in the transmission? You could be having a bearing seizure if the lube is low.
