Can anyone help me with my 2000 xvs1100 custom dragstar. It cuts out on me when im cruising & it takes a while to start & get goin again.I have to jump start her again to get her back home, stopping on me 3 times on the way. Does this sound like the fuel filter is blocked & if so, can i change it myself at home, any help on this matter would be greatly appriciated, Cheers, Lance

It does sound like a fuel filter or supply problem. Anyone can change a filter, just use common sense, like don't smoke while doing it,lol. I'd check the ignition points if it has them, might be electronic.

Can any one outthere help me with this prob??? My 2000 custom v-star 1100 has been has been dieing whilst out cruisn, i wait 5 mins then get har goin again with starter, then she cuts out again 2 ks down...

With your engine off, measure the battery's poles with a voltmeter and you should not see less than 12,5 V.If you do, your battery needs a good charging or replacement.
Then start the engine anyway you can and measure the battery's poles again with a voltmeter to make sure that you read 13,5-14,5V.If you don't, means that the regulator/rectifier failed and need to be replaced. In this case measure your generator coils too.

Noise from mufflers

It could be the exhaust baffles inside the pipe have given away from its spot weilding whn new, this is due to rust and off course usage.
Try to kick the exhaust pipes (gently and see if theres the same kind of nosies you get when you ride and cruise.

XVS1100 Dragstar, blue color of hrom pipes outer of cylindar 2.

Hi .... This is a common occurence, esp'ly with aftermarket pipes, where they are made from a single 'skin'. You can buy a special cream/polish solely to remove the discolouring. Make sure both spark plugs are a light tan colour which shows the mixture is OK. An old british bike trick was to wrap thick copper wire along the down pipe to disapate the heat.
