the stuff it came with is just fine. your bike shop where you buy the oil from will give you what they deem best for your bike, oil weights depend on where you are and ride. a K&N airfilter will help it breath better than the standard one but it wont do much for the performance. i have jardine pipes on mine i believe it was re-jetted when the previous owner installed them but i run a standard air cleaner and all is fine.
SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100
On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

Could be the coil. Also could be several other things. Download a shop manual and diagnose it.

Lift the back of the tank up and prop it up. Remove the chrome beauty covers, find spark plug wires and remove. Blow out with air first. Chaz Moto DC
