Only way to properly remove rust is using a emery paper, a wire brush and/or sand blasting. When cleaned prime and paint.
For scratches on paintwork you could try cut & polish compound found in auto stores.

What's the best way to remove rust or corrosion from your knife?

Rust can be removed by using a good stainless steel rust remover that is organic and dos not harm the metal. Rust on stainless steel should never be scrapped off. This may cause scratches on the surface and thus spoil the look of the metal.

How do I clean a rusty hopper for a meat grinder? It has been neglected and i would like to use it in a meatshop if i can get it clean. It is galvanized ,the gard is clean but the pan is rusty. I tried a...

This happened to me:

I used a gel rust remover with an electric pad sander (3 times - with a medium course paper the first 2 times, and then a finer course paper the 3rd time). It smoothed and cleaned it up pretty darn good, but there was still a slight red discoloration to the metal. So, we just kind of line the hopper with heavy duty aluminum foil and line over that with 2 clean plastic food grade bags. Also, now as part of maintenance/cleaning after use, we use a little spray rust remover at the beginning of the cleaning process. This should help prevent any more rust and might even help dull that red discoloration after a while.

Good luck.

Zzr600 91 front brakes. When front lever is touched the slightest bit, i will be riding and the font brakes lock up

Hi, this means that the pistons of your front brake are not recovering properly.
If you feel confortabe with that job, you must remove brake caliper , then remove cilinders and all the protection rubber and sealing rings. Give the cilinders a good cleaning (check for scrathes or rust) replace sealers and reasemble all. Change the brake fluid and purge the circuit properly
good luck

Can I simply paint over rust or must I remove the rust first?

If you paint over the rust the paint will not last long and the body will keep getting eroded over a period. Therefore remove first the rust. Apply anti-rust coating and then paint.
