all stalls end in CEL check engine light on. that is normal
but CEL glow. when engine running , means you had a failure, and it stored DTC error codes, so scan it.
lots of causes. huge list.
get a tune up , tops list.
SCAN it to be sure all sensors work. running.
all fuses in car good.
by stalls , i assume the engine stalls and engine RPM is 0 RPM.
the stall cause the whole dash to light up, all the warning lamps come
on (self test) oil , charge , CEL. come on.
what is important is the stall and the cause.
i will tell you the 3 ways.
lost electrical power to engine EFI system (seems not)
bad engine, (lost compression hot)?
bad spark , spark died.?
bad fueling, lost all fueling (starves and stalls or floods and misfires horribly and stalls (black spark plug tips are big time clue)
if non eof the rings a bell.?
get the car serviced.
this car is newer nicer car, you (we) can scan and drive and log data.
allowing faster easy diagnosis.
Check the water temp sensor. I'm not too familiar with Lincoln, but on GM vehicles a bad water temp sensor will tell the computer that the engine is cold causing it to dump more fuel than it really needs thus flooding the engine. The only way to start the engine is to open the throttle body enough to get the air/fuel ratio right so it will burn. If that doesn't work look at your EGR system to make sure the valve isn't sticking. It should move freely. If it's binding then it can cause similar issues, though not as likely.
definately flooded not sure of your model but if it has a vacumn fuel tap there is no OFF position you need to drain the carb bowls with the small drain screws at the bottom, and make certain the air filter element is not full of fuel, and check the oil is not overfull due to fuel contamination.then try and start with full throttle. Do not run the bike with fuel tap in PRI position or it may flood again
If it has an off position on fuel tap check air filter check oil turn fuel off start with full throttle turn fuel on
You may need to rebuild the fuel tap with a new diaphram kit.
The fuel tap has a small rubber diaphram and plunger, which can go hard, stick closed , or wear out and get a hole.
Also check the vacumn hose than opperates the tap is in good condition
Pri bypasses the vacumn opperated fuel tap, sometimes this can cause the carbs to flood or have higher than normal float levels..
Running it on prime can also cause the carbs to flood fuel into the engine filling the sump, which then s ucks fuel vapour through the crank breather into the airbox, and then through the carbs causing over rich.
If this has happened you also need to change the oil and fit a new air filter element
Adjust/clean the float bowl in the carb. Carefull not to bend the float tab when cleaning. Draining the float bowl wont solve the problem, but it might get you started up. If it is not in use for long period of times, add fuel stablizer, turn of the fuel valve, and run the bike untill it stalls out.
Check for fuel flow from the hose connected to the fuel tank--it should flow in a thin stream. If it doesn't, look for a plugged filter located in the fuel tap control. Clean it with spray carburetor cleaner. Recheck the idle screw adjustment after getting the fuel to flow properly. Good luck!
Check the vacuum pipe from the carbs to the fuel tap, if its gat a pin hole in as you demand more fuel the vacuum loss cuts downthe fuel flow and the bike will stop!
Sounds like one of the needle and seat assemblies in the carbs is stuck open and is flooding the cylinder which then floods the crankcase...
ALWAYS turn the fuel tap off when engine is not running.
Take it to a bike shop, they should be able to fix it a short time.
when you cut the key on do you hear pump run for a few seconds? if not then it is probably pump. try beating on tank with your hand while someone spins over. sometimes this will shake the pump and it will kick in. if this is case then you will still need pump because it WILL happen again. let me know
