Hi and welcome to FixYa,
To my knowledge, there would only be 3 wires needed from the handlebars that affects the engine:
As to the ignition coil, 1 wire is IGN B+12 while the other would go to the CDI and should pulsate when cranking or engine running.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Wires are color coded > red to red, blue to blue, etc.. As to where to connect each wire, just go to the dealer and ask to see a wireing diagram. Unless he is a **** he will be glad to help. Other options include the library for a service manual, purchase a service manual, Google 'Kawasaki GPZ 500 wireing', and finding another GPZ500 and looking at it's wireing.

One wire is the flexible silicone rubber wire from the spark plug to the ignition coil. You don't have to strip or connect the other wire, just wrap it around the spark plug wire a few turns. The current from the spark ignition will induce a signal into the hour meter that the meter uses to determine when the motor is on or off. I hope this helps and good luck.

Try this manual, it should cover all your needs. Are you sure you have the correct rating fuse in the box, the manual will solve the problem any way. Good luck:
