Re: Red key shaped light flashing on speedometer
The red key indicator is to do with your security system. When you turn the ignition on and put the handlebar control to the "RUN" position, power is applied to the fuel pump inside the fuel tank, that is probably the sound you are hearing.
The red key indicator usually flashes to show that the system is armed.
If you have a problem the only way to really find out whats going on is to have a dealer check the bike for trouble codes, this is usually done by connecting a computer to the data plug on your bike (this connector is usually found under the seat near the battery).

hi.. Many cars these days are equipped with an immobilizer. (you can find more information about the immobilizer in your owner's manual). The immobilizer allows the engine to run only if the correct key is used. If your car has an immobilizer, you probable see a "Security" or Key-shaped light coming on on the dashboard every time you turn the ignition ON. If this light is flashing when you turn the ignition ON, it could mean that there is some problem with an immobilizer or the system does not recognize the key. If the immobilizer doesn't recognize the key, the engine wold not start at all, or would start and then die in few seconds. You can try a spare key, if it won't work, your dealer is the place to call. Sometimes, the key is just need to be reprogrammed. On some cars you can find the information how to reprogram the key in the owner's manual...
I would have to say it is the anti-theft light since it only flashes after you lock the doors which if this is that is normal, shows system is armed. However when looking through the owners manual on a 2003 model it shows it as THEFT and not a key,2002 shows the same, however 2004 shows a lock. The only thing I see that even closely resembles a key is the temp warning indicator.
If the signs that is blinking red which is shape like triangle , it is the toner cartridge indicator. The toner cartridge is empty.Try to pullout and check the toner cartridge, if it is light in weight it is already empty.
Just had this problem on one of my homies cars. We thought it was the fuel pump, but it wound up being the anti theft. Locking all the doors and unlocking it from the drivers side (As recommended in the owners manual. ) with the key didn't work. But it did work locking all the doors and unlocking it with the key from the passengers side. Started right up!
