SOURCE: I have a Landrover Freelander 1.8i petrol engine

Thank you. It is not possible to help you with such limited information. A leak can be caused by many things depending on where it is leaking. A head gwsket can leak of course, but that happens INSIDE causing the coolant to be burned in the cylinderhead, whci results in white smoke. Most leaks are either in one of the hoses, the radiator, or the radiator cap. I have personally never seen a head leak to the outside. I hope this helps, but as I stated, the information is very limited. Thank you for trusting FixYa.com to help get you going!

Why does 1990 323K post run after turned off at key, splutters and runs rough for approx 20secs.I am in Australia. Cheers.

This behaviour, known as dieseling (in petrol motors too), or running on, usually occurs in cars which have

- incorrectly set ignition timing causing the engine to run very hot
- spark plugs of the wrong heat range fitted
- excessive carbon deposits on piston tops and combustion chambers
- idle speed set too high
- choke mechanism (if fitted) faulty
tip

I put petrol in my diesel car

If you accidentally put petrol into your diesel car there is an unbelievably easy fix for it.
firstly get a paper coffee/tea cup(sold in most garages) fill it with any type of engine oil and add it to your diesel tank.(apply it in two half-cup measures and you will not spill it everywhere), then fill your tank with diesel. your engine might splutter a bit but the engine oil will compensate for the petrol and it should correct its self. Do this again the next time your tank will take a few gallon of diesel and it should be fine.

Impreza 1.6RX is choking and spluttering, changed exhaust, coil fuel filter and air filter, runs ok for a little while, then splutters and chokes again,

When you say changed the exhaust, did you change the catalytic converter also? This sounds like your problem.

I have an L reg Ford Fiesta Ghia we have a re-accuring problem of when you first start it up the choke doesn't automatically cut in and as soon as you put it into drive or rev it splutters and cuts out...

Hi, This seems like the automatic choke is not working best & easy way is get a choke cable from scrap yard & and use that and ignore the automatic choke. I dont know how many miles your spark plugs have done but if over 10,000 then it's worth changing the spark plugs at same time. Please leave me feed back: Malcolm Campbell, Thanks.

When going along fine my landrover discovery suddenly revs like hell and pushes out big clouds of smoke what could be wrong?

It seems to me that you either have a dirty injector. Maybe you should try using those cleaning additives to the fuel. Tank it up full.

I have a 1997 passat petrol coughs and splutters on cold start u

There is a cold start valve on the throttle body, may just need a clean.Check for damp in the ht leads and use wd40 or another lube to dispell moisture.Check your vacuum hoses for splits as at that age they will have cracks and leaks not visible even after removing.Have you ever changed the petrol filter just as a precaution and what is the condition of the sparkplugs as worn one work on hot tempretures but mess around in the cold.
