If I hold the start switch on, it will start but when I release the switch it will stop after a second or two. New gas, new battery
SOURCE: Bike won't start
so where did you find the bad ground, and if I wire the negitive side directly to the frame can that be a permanant fix? Myne is doing the exact same thing
SOURCE: v star 11oo has new battery new starter clutch now
front bush in starter worn . job for an auto electrician im afraid.
SOURCE: speedomet starts and stops erratically
The battery probably has nothing to do with it.
If the speedometer is mechanical, then most likely the cable has become loose and needs to be tightened. If that doesn't correct the problem, the cable itself may be bad.
SOURCE: i have a 2007 yamaha vstar that is having starter
i don't know if you have the 650 or 1100, but here's something to check. on the left engine side cover there is a half dollar size inspection cover, remove that cover and look inside at the flywheel while you turn the engine over, if the flywheel is rocking back and forth or only rotating completely ocassionally, the problem is not a electrical issue, it's mechanical, it's the starter one way clutch located behind the flywheel. if this turns out to be the problem (as it just was with my '03 1100) boats.net has the best price for the parts in the country.
SOURCE: I just purchased the 2004 road star. The first
no1lampmaste mentioned"earthing". Please check your battery to frame ground carefully. And any other grounds visible on the frame.
