red light ? its the immobilisor ,can only suggest you have it taken to a dealer ,could be transponder fault or you have lost the chip out of the key .

bad earth behind instrument panel
or corrosion /dry solder
or instrument panel printed board compromised

if happy with inspection of instrument panel
replace the warning bulb
and look at all the door earths and positive wiring

Blimey mate , check the fuses but sounds like the instrument panel , or rather the ecb ,may be fried

Does it have the original key. Sounds like it is not the key with the security chip. My ram does the same thing with key from Walmart.

change your spark plugs first.

You need to take the battery and have it load tested.

This color code works for 87-93 mustang factory radio; it might work on yours as well. I'm not sure if it has the same fuses though.

Radio Connector:

Light Green / Yellow - Hot at all times (Fuse 8)
Yellow / Black - Hot in ACC or Run (Fuse 11)
Light Brown / Red - Goes to instrument panel dimming rheostat (Fuse 4)
Red - Ground
White / Purple - Hot in ACC or Run (Fuse 11)

Speaker Connector:

White / Light Green - (+) Right Instrument Panel & Door Speaker
Dark Green / Orange - (-) Right Instrument Panel & Door Speaker
Brown / Pink - (+) Right Rear Speaker
Pink / Light Brown - (-) Right Rear Speaker
Pink / Light Green - (+) Left Rear Speaker
Tan / Yellow - (-) Left Rear Speaker
Light Brown / White - (+) Left Instrument Panel & Door Speaker
Orange / Light Green - (-) Left Instrument Panel & Door Speaker
