2000 ducati 748 running rough

Ive been told this model has a problem with the tank rusting so blocking the fuel lines does this sound right

If you intend to leave the bike in a garage for over a month, you fill the tank up with gas and you add in a full tank 50ml of 2stroke mixture oil. That way it will never rust.Only for long term parking. In every day use you don't need to worry of anything. It is a very good quality nike.

There are a lot of things that contribute to rough running of an engine.( carburators dirty, Intake vaccum leaks, petcock and fuel filter, spark plugs , igintion coils, improper valve clearance........)

Can you please be more specific as, does your bike's engine idles normal or is the idling also erratic?

Did the problem start suddenly or gradually?

When did you last tune up the engine?

I never heard that one, you should be able to see inside the tank and see if it is rusting or all gunked up. Pull the lines off and see if they run free and clean, change the filter, I would check the rubber lines to the fuel pump, they may be leaking air, vacuum assisted. Check the spark plugs. I had trouble with the champions, so I went and got Autolite 4163 plugs, they worked ten times better. 2002 S4 1999 750

Difficulty starting

darn thing wouldnt start after I fueled it up. After sitting for 10 min it fires right up and runs great. When starting cold it fires right up with no prob. Someone told mevapor lock is my issue this sound right ? and if so what is vapor lock and how do I prevent it ? thx all for your support.,The vapor lock situation happened to me a few times with my 748, so it CAN happen. To test this theory, just fill your tank to 1/2 of what it normally holds, next time you fill it. Or pop the cap off right now and let it sit for 10 minutes and close it back up again. Al your doing is releasing the pressure on the system. Will this do any good? Well, had always been filling my tank too high and once I realized that popping the gas cap, would release the pressure, I never had a problem after.,,,
