I'd say the fan pulls more air across transmission cooler, they can clog up on you. Most vehicles come with a cooler that barely gets by.I allways add a towing extra cooler to all my cars, and use syntheic ATF.If clogged you can try blowing thru it with airhose,or by pass radiator cooler, and run a larger aux. cooler

Oldsmobile problems

White smoke is a sign of water in the piston area. Could be a blown head gasket. Keep your eye on the rad and see if the fluid goes down over a period of time. as well.

Will not go

If the engine is running and the car won't go, it is a problem in the drive train; clutch, transmission, driveline(s). Smoke out the oil fill (a small amount) is normal.

Hey, I see this kind of problem all the time. You should check to see if your radiator fans are coming on at idle. Because most likely they are not so that's why it over heats while it is at idle....there is no cool air cooling down the engine. Hope this helps!

Why does my 97 explorer rev up so high when I step on the gas?

Transmission is not engaging. Bad torque converter or solenoids.

Try starting the motor in the "Clear Flood Mode" which is starting it while you press and hold the pedal to the floor, this will cause the injectors to close. Sometimes if the temp sensor goes bad it will command the ecm to pump more fuel resulting in a rich mixture. Was the smoke black? If so there's a fuel mix issue.

Check the trans fluid level first. To do this have the car running at operating temp check the level if low adjust to proper level and recheck. If thats not it I will help u trouble shoot it further. Sounds like a bad torque converter.

Evap leak in fuel

Remove the gas cap and re-install it making sure that you hear it click several times. What your evap leak could be is the gas cap allowing gas fumes to escape. All it takes is a .040 leak to turn on the engine light. If it persists you'll have to have the emission system smoke tested. What happens is the system is literally filled with smoke and the leak will be found by where the smoke comes from.
