It sounds electrical and as it's a Sporty, I suggest a temperature-related dry joint opening up in the wiring. One popular candidate would be the earthing strap. It's worth checking continuity with a VOM when engine is hot. It may have a vibration crack. 66C is quite cool for a sportster oil temperature, so I guess you have this problem on every long ride? Good Luck.

2001 xl 1200 Sportster Run and when it warms up it shuts down, after it cools down it will start again and run fine and when it warms up it shuts down again.

Check the cam sensor in the nose cone on the right side of the engine. Due to heating cycles, the epoxy melts over time and the wires don't make contact. Pretty sure replacing it will solve your problem,. You will have to time the bike after replacing the sensor, though.

We have a 93 harley xlh sportster 1200 that was rebuilt into a 1340 and dont know any thing about it can you help us figure out our first bike? We bought the bike and its our first bike ever. We know...

Are you sure it is a 1340 and not a 1200? Most Sporties that have the displacement bumped up started life as a 883 and were bumped to a 1200. That involved new pistons and cylinders, and related gaskets and tuning, that's about it.

Need oil routing diagram for 1989 harley davidson sportster hugger to install oil cooler. how to install oil cooler?

Little tip -The only time the oil cooler will cool is when the bike is moving and when the bike is moving you don't need the oil cooler. This is from a factory harley tech.

2003 1200 sportster makeing strange humming sound from rear right side. still get 50 mpg and the bike shows no other problems.

My bike does the same thing. I think it's the brake pads dragging a little. I brought to the shop and that was their opinion. they adjusted it and reduced the sound but it still does it to a lesser degree.

Won't crank w/o starting fluid and keep it running until it warms up and also spits back during crank and run(97 XLH 1200)Help plz

Your ign pick up is bad. Pull the little cover on the right side of the motor off ( usually riveted on ) see if the plate is mushy if it is then replace it with the screamin eagle ign plate. It's cheaper than stock and you get a little performance boost as well.

Harley runs nice in 40-50 deg. weather only

Hey Tom, gonna try and help ya here...typical vapor lock/overheating is what your describing and i sure hear a lot of it w/harleys...are you using a very high grade synthetic oil , like castrol Syntec Actevo ? are you filling up w/ premium gasoline ?
make sure your timing is not too far advanced and don;'t let it idle too low...when you come to a stoplight stand up for a strech while letting your engine get air not blocked by your legs....all these things will help greatly......Good luck to you friend...Tim
