Blown head gasket pushing some of the charge into the water jacket which finds it's way through your cooling system to finish in the expansion tank (your reservoir bottle).
Soon that is going to be a BIG problem
you may have answered your own question .a blown head gasket will cause water to get in the oil therefore loss of water will cause it to overheat.driving under these conditions will cause more engine problems.
I doubt it's actually boiling over. More than likely you've blown the head gasket on the car and the pistons are pushing compressed air back into the water system and it coming out the bottle. If you continue to drive the car the gasket will deteriorate and the coolant will start to get into the cylinders and oil. At that point you may be looking at crank bearing damage and a warped or cracked head.
You could have a head gasket failure between a combustion chamber and a water channel.
Sniff the fumes from the expansion bottle to see if they smell of exhaust fumes.
This failure should also produce bubbles in the expansion bottle if true.
yes vw is very dependant on the cooling fan coolant pressure and expecially coolant mixture, check the gasket on the expansionbottle, as that can cause problems too, anyone of these will result in overheating
If the head gasket goes water is allowed to seep into the cylinders and then out of the exhaust.
Once the level has dropped enough the car overheats
Or the water is pressurised in the radiator from the compression of the engine and it is forced out of the overflow leading to coolant loss and overheating
Look at the oil on the dipstick. If its milky you have a head gasket issue. Also if you can make it to a smog machine they can sniff the coolant fumes to see if gas is in the coolant. Head Gasket again. Any repair shop has a chemical that can test for gas in the coolant also.
The theory here is if your losing water and none is leaking on the ground its got to be going into the cylinder and getting pushed out the exhaust pipe.
Now if its just overheating you may have a stuck thermostat or clogged radiator or a coolang fan that dlesnt turn on when commanded by the computer.Also if its just overheating and the water lost is going on the ground somewhere then you may not have a head gasket issue.
I just did a head gasket on a Honda because as the engine was warming up the overfill bottle would fill up and overflow. The combustion pressure was leaking into the coolant and pushing the coolant out.
That's what it sounds like, a blown head gasket. Every time the piston compresses it pushes the air fuel mixture into your cooling system through the broken head gasket. Try running the engine with the radiator cap off or lose and look and smell for gas in your radiator overflow tank. Good luck and hope this helps.

The cause of the engine come Overheat.
The WATER PUMP. on your car Is driven with the TIMING belt.
My solution is :
Don't drive more Because if the TIMING belt when Broken.
The HEAD VALVES can be damaged. Be careful.
Get the car to a Autorepair SHOP. or if you can do yourselft.
REPLACE the water pump and the Timing belt.
And check all the pulleys after you remove the covers and timing belt.
Inspect the SEALS replace if need.
