Suzuki GSX-R 750 cuts out while riding

Hi, i have GSX-R 750 for some reason while riding bike just makes noise loose power and cut out, did it the day before it came right after a while and did same today. Where do I start looking for the problem. I found some light wires were worn through and they melted some fuses and wires but replaced them all. The battery had a 20 amp fuse that was melted away so can it still be electrical or is it mechanical? Can someone please help? Thanks

Hi,

To my knowledge, there are no onboard electrical/electronic components capable of shorting and blowing the fuse with out blowing any of the secondary fuse. The main fuse could possibly blow due to a short in the wiring or an exposed/frayed wire touching the body. The three most likely areas would be:

wire harness leading to the regulator;
wire harness leading to the fusebox; and/or
wire harness leading to the ignition switch.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description indicates an electrical malfunction. Offhand, the jump start and charging is significant. This points to the bike's battery not charging. Suspects would be:

voltage regulator (most likely);
connectors to voltage regulator (likely). Check/clean corrosion/burnt marks;
stator and/or the 3 wires coming from it (least likely).

I have a 05 suzuki GSX-R 600 I took it out for ride yesterday and all of a sudden my display quit working and i stop to check what was the problem then the bike shut of by it self

check your wiring !!! First check the battery connections and then you wiring loom coming from the bike to your handlebars and dash board . some connection is either loose or cut

Why does bike stall while riding in hot weather or in cooler weather after riding for an hour or so?

Take the bike out for a ride and when this happens pull over and open up the gas cap. If it starts back up and keep on running then you have found the root cause - your gas tank's vent is clogged, you will need to have it cleaned out and serviced. Basically a clogged gas cap vent causes the bike to vapor lock and prevents fuel from flowing.

Seems you are running entirely off your battery.
Indications are a suspect lighting or source coil is shorting. Resistance test will show discrepancies. Data is available on-line, search technical/electrical manuals from Clymer or Haynes. An auto shop sells cheap multi-meters than you can use. It is a stationary test and will identify individual component problems. As rectifier/regulator, cdi box and wiring/switches/connections all have an effect. These test are outlined within these publications. Cheers (and don't get caught)
