Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

IM changing the water pump on my 1986 suzuki cavalcade. It's chain driven. There is an L stamped on the bolthead. Does anyone know if that means it's a reverse thread. And when I put it back together does it need to be torqued?

Hi, Shawn for this scenario you will need your service manual that has all fastener torque specs -fluid capacities and a wiring diagram on the back pages, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can not find the best tool you ever bought for your Suzuki, despair not, for a mere $13 you can download another one.

SOURCE: timming chain adjustment

Most likely you have anautomatic cam chain tensioner, which cannot be tensioned, and the only remedy is to replace the cam chain (if it's stretched). If, however, you have a manualy adjusted cam chain tensioner (highly unlikely), you have to look up the tensioning value in your workshop manual.

SOURCE: what is the head bolt torque on a 1990 suzuki lt250r

The 8mm head bolts are torqued at 19 - 21 ft/lbs.
any smaller 6mm bolts are torqued to only 6 ft/lbs
like those on the lower cylinder.

SOURCE: Im looking for the torque specs to put my engine

You can find the torque specs in a service manual. Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual.
www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp Most all of the manuals are in English but some are not. There is no way to be sure without doing the download. You can always delete it if in a foreign language.

Shown below are a couple of manuals on the site. Yes, I know the years are not 1993 like your bike, but the torque values don't change from year to year. Even the service proceedures don't change often.

1986 Suzuki Cavalcade 1400 runs close to the red line going down the road. The bolts to get into any interior engine area are all stripped looks like someone tried several times to get in to see what was...

By "Close to the Red Line" I assume you mean the temperature?
Have you checked the coolant level? Under the right side fairing pocket.
Is the water pump working? It is chain driven & located inside the left engine cover.
Have you tried to remove the bolts with an impact driver with some valve grinding paste on the phillips head tip, or the heads may have to be drilled out and the bolts removed with polygrips/vicegrips after the cover is removed.

Parts can be obtained from www.cademaster.com

Further advice can be got from the worldwide yahoo email group via www.suzukicavalcade.com

Hope this helps.

I have a 1986 Cavalcade that runs great then without warning stalls out. I think the fuel pump relay is bad. Does anyone know where this relay is located on this bike?? Thanks

Does it stall suddenly...or start sputtering as if its running out of fuel. The fuel pump stopping shouldn't kill the engine suddenly....each carb will empty and you will lose one cylinder, then two etc.
If its dying suddenly I would investigate your sidestand switch....when the bike stalls...do you ever find the starter won't immediately crank?

Replace the 16 switches behind the faceplate. Known problem. One has internally shorted through corrosion and stops the others from working. Go to www.cademaster.com and look under cavalcade parts for the radio switches. The site also provides the how to in replacing them. Have you joined the Suzuki Cavalcade worldwide group? join through www.suzukicavalcade.com DON'T JUST REPLACE THE FAULTY SWITCH - DO THEM ALL as the others will follow.

Can anyone tell me how to remove fairing on right side of 1986 suzuki cavalcade. I need to replace rectifier.

You can get at the Reg/Rect by taking the fairing and dash cover off. You don't have to remove the right side fairing. I have done it this way. Remove the seat, false tank, handlebar/clock adjust buttons cover, vent cover around the steering, right inner fairing cover, windshield, dash cover. Then you have access to the Reg/Rect. The wiring loom for it runs back towards the right speaker, the connectors there split to the Stator and noise filters on the yellow wires. The Yellow wires can also be connected to any of the yellow connectors. You can also join a Cavalcade email group accessed through www.suzukicavalcade.com hope this helps.

I am looking for a windshield for my 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade. Any ideas where I can find one?

www.cademaster.com has them listed on his site along with all the other Suzuki Cavalcade parts still available. Also look up the Cavalcade_USA group on Yahoo groups. I brought one of him and he sent it to New Zealand. Great guy even if his name is Tracy.

The front body parts or the outside shell.

Get on the web and Google " salvage motorcycles suzuki ". If you can't find it there, you won't find it.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!
