Question about Motorcycles
How do I check valve clearance
Posted by Anonymous on
Hi, Anonymous for this scenario you will need your service manual that has all fastener torque specs -fluid capacities and a wiring diagram on the back pages, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can not find the best tool you ever bought for your Honda, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

SOURCE: valve clearance check
the only time i would worry about getting the clearance on the valves checked is if the bike starts acting up there is no need to break the gasket seal just to check something that is probably alright anyway

i think you will find that like the 1200 there is no valve adjustment..well there is but not in the normal locknut screw adjustment that we are all familiar with,,they are a shimmed "no lash"hydraulic system,,you can buy the shims from your local honda dealer but they only come in 1mm steps i took 4 new ones to an engineer and got them taken down to 1/2 mm thickness this made a big difference, they are quite easy to do just take some time to get right, but once done they should do 50-60000km before needing looking at again..hope this helps

Not sure about clearance levels, but can tell you there is no English manual for the XJR 400 - only Japanese. Try the XJR owners club. It's full of troubleshooting questions answered in the forums.
Hope this helped

The site link below will give you the info you need from a free download.
Select your make, model and year and download a free manual...it's a big one, about 26Mb.
Then get yourself some metric feeler guages and go for it!
