2005 Hartford HD-125S electrics not working

Hi, I have a Hartford HD.125l My bikes electrics don't work, the lights and indicators come on as soon as I turn the key but eventually die. The horn gives off a quiet blip and the starter doesn't work. The engine still runs with the kick start but no electrical. I have checked everything else but when I take the regulator/rectifier off the electricals are the same. Would a new regulator/rectifier sort the problem out?

you could try ebay or import from a country that has supplies as to the electrical problem it is the regulator rectifier ive had hundreds of project bikes through my garage and nearly all of them have been fully rewired by me and had reg rectifier replaced

SOURCE: ive got a hartford 125 vr wont stay running

sounds like you have a leak in the intake between the carb and motor, check the gasket between the carb and motor.

I have Hartford 125 hd what position do I need petrol switch in to use bike up or down its 2004

well reserve tank really just takes the tap for the fuel further down in the tank
ie if you place the fuel tap to reserve then you can access the full tank if its on normal you can only access so much down in the tank

anyway its down for reserve and up for main

BIKE WILL NOT START

Remove plug cap from spark plug and unscrew from HT lead. Clean it and put it to one side. Use a set of wire cutters to remove about 1/2 an inch of the HT lead and refit cap. This SHOULD sort it out. If it was more serious, like the CDI for instance, then it wouldn't spark at all, so thankfully it isn't serious. Hope this helps.

Wont start

Have check for the sparks at the spark plugs?
Have you checked if the fuel enters the combustion chamber?
Check the ignition coils , the fuses .

Backfire

Backfires are when fuel travels through the cylinders without combusting then explodes in the exhaust pipe. Fuel supply/combustion issue. It seems likely there's a problem either with the mix going into the cylinders (carbs fuel lines or air intake), or with timing. These can affect a bike at particular speeds and throttle positions. If using the choke has helped at some point that's a further indication (the choke changes the gas/air mix). ,,,

Smoke

Check petrol quality. Check oil level. If found to be reducing on use visit the nearest Authorised Service Station since it could be due to piston and bore problem.,

Oil leakage from engine.

Check if oil drain bolt is tightened properly. Check for gaskets wearout if so visit the nearest Authorised Service Station. Oil leakage could be from chain drive if excess lubrication is done.,
