If you change the exhaust pipes, you have to sync the carbs (if you cant sync them, you have to change the carb jets), usually it is backfiring because the carbs are not in balance.

Yes, it could (and probably is) be an air leak. Check to be sure the carb is tight in the intake manifold, and make sure the hot-start isn't loose and is sealing properly. Also make sure all of the exhaust system joints are tight, an air leak in the exhaust will make a four-stroke pop and backfire like an old work truck with no muffler...

I would think about investing in a carb re-build kit.

Hi
I would suggest that you have the valve clearances checked.

Also, check that the carb is clean. Pay particular attention to the PILOT JET as this opperates the idle circuit.

Check the engine compression. This sounds like a simple valve job would be the fix.

SOURCE: my honda cbr 600 is struggling as if it keeps

It all seems to be leading to fuel starvation. Have you checked the tank breather is not blocked which can be a small hole in the petrol cap or a tube from under the tank. It could also be a blocked fuel filter. There should be two. One inside the fuel tank under the petcock, another before the fuel pump. Here is the workshop manual where you can find all info you will ever need for this bike.
Hop this has been useful, rate me if it has...?
Thanks and good luck.

I own a 2004 yamaha roadstar 1700. 15,000 miles. always ran perfectly. i would say i ride 4 days a week and mostly scenic drives low speeds. last week i took it out and drove it pretty hard. high speeds...

remove the carbs and have them professionally overhauled
indicates a problem in the high speed circuit , probably a blockage
might also be an incorrect float level that is not allowing enough fuel into the bowl for hgfh speed operation

Bike sits a lot,Hard to start, will only continue to run with choke on. Bike backfires alot.

You need to clean your carburetors. The ethanol that is in gasoline turns to an orange colored film
and it clogs the jets. The prevention for this seems to be seafoam added to your gasoline after your carbs are clean.
It does work. If your bike sits a lot, i would also suggest that you start it up weekly and let it warm up. Sitting is the worse thing for gasoline.
Judging from your description and other problems, the backfire is probably bad gas not burning and igniting in the cylinder when overloaded with gas.
A good carb cleaning, consists of taking the carbs off the bike, taking out all the jets and soaking everything in a good carb solution.
I would start with the carb cleaning, drain the old gas out of the tank, start with fresh 93 octane and add the recommended dose of seafoam listed on the back of the botlle to your gasoline.
Put a set of new spark plugs in it, and fire it up.
Your back fire should be gone as well.

Sounds like the main jet fell out in the carb. Take the float bowl off and see if it is laying in the bottom.

93 CBR decided not to run today

Well, depending on what your mechanical skills are, it may be tough to troubleshoot and fix your problem. I have the same exact bike, and it along with all other sport bikes are tough to work on because everything is very confined. You first have to start with the basics, Fuel, Spark, and Compression. Your going to have to get the fairings off and remove the gas tank before you test any of that. Once the tank is off, you can get access to the spark plugs and wires to do a spark test. Also while you are there, check to make sure the carb is getting sufficient fuel, or even possibly too much fuel. Leaky needle and seats in the carb bowls can cause lots of problems for starting and idling. And please don't blow yourself up! Exposed gas and spark test can equate to big flame balls if your not careful. If you need more help, I'd be willing to do what I can for you so shoot me an email at [email protected].

I cant start my motorcycle

Check the carb for old petrol, drain off by unscrewing the brass bolt at the bottom of the carb, and allow new petrol to flow through on the starter. Petrol 'goes off' in time!
