Pull out on the lever and push it toward the front of the bike, hard if necessary. Rock the bike while pushing. If the bike comes out of gear it should start. The bike will not start while the lever is up.
Probably need to replace the switch behind the lever. Don't test it, just replace it.

If you have dual brakes on the front, one side may be applying more pressure to one or the other side. You may need the brake pads replaced. I also suggest having the brake fluid replaced and system checked.

Wow you must have problem when sarting your bike as you have been pressing it too long as such the starter button spring got overly depressed-in.
Open up your RH swith and under the light swith you will find a spring coil, get it out pull/stretch it out to lenghten it for about another 30-50% of current length. NWord of warning, when lenghtening it do it coil per coil not just at the ends.
Installing is the reverse of uninsgall process.
Good enough advice?

Hi, check the cable connection that is very common. Follow you cable to back of tranny and connect is right where the cable connect to the tranny. If that is connected trying to put bike into reverse manually. look to the left side of the bike were you would actually shift gears if it had a shifter their is a little shaft there. Use a 10mm in think and engage it manually. it is spring loaded so it will pop back in place. you must then restart bike so sensor will allow you to shift gears again. if that doesn't work you may have a bad sensor or shift cyliniod but probably not likely if you can shift into the forward gear.

SOURCE: 1995 Gold Wing - reverse
It sounds like broken or stripped out gears in the reverse motor. You will need to remove it to check further.
