Hi, Anonymous you could have a faulty sending unit or gauge, there could be a problem with your wiring. On models with the fuel gauge posing as a left-hand fuel cap the gauge is a press fit do not try to unscrew it, simply ample force lift up in a rocking motion to remove gauge. Disconnect wires to the gauge and with a set of positive and negative jumpers from the battery connect the positive jumper and flash the negative, gauge should peg full, if not replace the gauge. With a test light check for power to the sending unit, then remove the sending unit and manually operate the float arm slowly with the correct wiring hooked up to the fuel gauge and sending unit and the ignition on, the gauge should respond accordingly if not replace the float arm assembly. If your fuel gauge registers the incorrect amount of fuel in the tank you can try bending the float arm the necessary amount for a more accurate reading. 2004 ford explorer fuel gauge fuse

If your fuel gauge isn't working , it's not a fuse ! The gauge or the sending unit in the fuel tank is bad . If you had other thing's not working in the instrument cluster I would say probably a fuse. There is not a fuse just for the fuel gauge . 1997 Kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic fuel gauge does not work

Hi, Seajay41 and the usual suspects are:
1. Blown instrument fuse.
2. Faulty sending unit.
3. Faulty wiring between sending unit and gauge.
4. Faulty ground or power connection.
5. Bad fuel gauge.

How to replace fuel gauge on 1984 Grand Marquis

Are you sure its not the fuel sending unit and not the fuel gauge itself.Because the sending unit controls the fuel gauge level and if the float gets stuck then the fuel gauge will not work.

Temp gage and fuel gage will stop working at the same time, then will start working at the same time.

How do you install a fuel gauge on a 2004 H-D fatboy

If the bike came with a fuel gauge, no problem. Just work the fuel gauge up out of the tank. It's held in by a rubber o-ring. The wires under it are very short so be careful. The sender unit is inside the tank. You'll have to determine which is the problem piece and replace it.

If your bike did not come with a fuel gauge, you'll have to purchase a left side fuel tank if that's the location of the original fuel gauges. I do not know where Harley puts the fuel gauges on the Softails. If they have a fuel gauge on them, they are fuel injected. I do not work on fuel injected bikes, carbs only. Sorry.

Good Luck
Steve
