1987 Pontiac 6000 4 cylinder - I have spark (new plugs and wires) I am getting fuel, car will turn over but won't start. Brand new battery, the starter will crank over several times and then the starter acts like it is having a hard time cranking over. We installed a new injector, new fuel filter and replaced the ignition switch on the steering column. HELP!

SOURCE: Car will not crank sometimes unless you turn the key many times.

Check battery connections. Sometimes a weak connection will fail under very high loads like starting.

SOURCE: 1995 AUDI 90 CS - Hard to start... spark & fuel OK

Have you tried replacing the starter? I know starters can go bad if the car is not started or run for a long time.

I am getting the same car, with the same issue.. it sat for 2 yrs and won't start.

My mechanic told me it is probably a starter.

1987 Pontiac fiero when trying to start backfires

Sounds like an ignition timing issue. consult a manual to find out what the correct timing is and then check your timing to make sure it is correct.

Why doesn't it start?

Battery connections must be dirty or loose...does it jump start? I'll bet the lights and radio still work...if connections are clean and tight, you will need to check the alternator...Hope this helps.

I have a yzf600r. it started yesterday. but then i put in a new battery and niw it won't start. Its like its not getting any gas.

so I take it that the 600 is turning over with the new battery. Did you check the fuel lever? You might have turned it to off when you dropped in the new battery. Otherwise start trouble shooting, Is it getting spark? Take one of the spark plugs out and put the lead wire back on it then touch the bottom the spark plug to metal and turn it over...you should see some spark.Do this to all spark plugs. Then on to fuel, take the fuel feed line off, turn it over and see if fuel sperts out of the line. If all thats good, I would remove the carb. and clean it. Hope this kinda helps :)

Won't start

Start with what is missing to start the engine
Do you have fuel pressure?
Do you have spark?
Is the valve timing ok?

No fuel pressure

You should check the electrical system i.e do you have spark at the spark plug ends? If no then work on this. If yes then remove the spark plugs, put half a teaspoon of fuel into each cylinder and put the plugs back. Try starting the engine. If it does then fuel isn't getting to cylinders. If it doesn't then you need a valve or complete overhaul job,

Hi, are you sure your fuel pump is running? I'm assuming you have the 4-cylinder 2.5 liter engine. The ECU and the injector are powered by the same wire as the ignition system. See diagram below.
