Question about 1993 Yamaha XV 535 Virago DX

Open Question

I am having a go at making carb. needles for an XV535, need to know taper dimentions for 5DZ9 and 5DZ10 needles thanks.

I am intend to use siver brazing rod as the needle as it is about the same hardness and is the right diameter.

SOURCE: 91 kx 250 stock carb setup.

Low speed screw 1.5 turns out from bottomed. Middle position for clip #3 position.
I never rely on the factory settings for the low speed screww, set it to factory and keep adjusting it 1/8 turn at a time until idle sounds best and quick throttle blips dont sound "stumbly" the later being the most important.

The needle position is for low altitude.

NOTE: use copper wire to clean jets, sync is just thottles are same position as all carb's just leave them adjustments alone will be fine if are out use a 1/8 drill an place in between piston/butterfly to carb bore to sync/calibrate

better use a manometer for adjusting screws

depends on condition of org parts

worn = richer running

new = lean an clean

also if changed the exhaust system need to
re-calibrate carbs for max performance

SOURCE: How do I re-jet my carbs?

Basic setting for idle adjustments is ~1-1/2 to 2 turns CCW from CW stop. New stock (paper) air filters don't require re-jetting--only K&N foam replacements require one size bigger main jet. Adjust each carburetor idle screw for smoothest idle. Each screw should be about the same adjustment--if one is non-responsive, that carburetor may need internal cleaning. Make sure you have good spark plugs and the ignition points are clean and set to proper clearance. The ignition coils on these old Honda's were typically weak--try to find a modern replacement. The carburetor slide needles should have the 'C' clips in the center groove. Make sure the retainers are down tight. Check the engine valve clearances (about 0.003 " cold) for both valves when the crankshaft is set for TDC when that cylinder is coming up on compression.

SOURCE: need setting for carb. adjuster on bottom of carb

Turn the adjusting screw all the way in until it LIGHTLY seats. Now back it out one and one half turns. Do the same adjustment for the throttle screw on the right side of the carb. You are now back to the stock factory settings.

Brazing aluminum pipe for automotive ac.


This tip can save you a whole bunch if you ever had a busted aluminum pipe on your AC line. A typical ac line is not only expensive but most of the the time auto parts would have to order them.
First you will need a propane brazing torch, brazing rods, and a clean wire brush.
Procedure; Fisrt clean the surface really good with the wire brush. The key to a working with aluminum is a very clean surface. Even if it looks clean the oxidation is not noticable. Set it all up so that you are comfortable while you are doing the brazing. Next, fire up the brazing torch. ( Do not use oxygen just plain propane torch will do the job much better.) Heat up the surface that need to be repaired. Now be patient and let the working surface get hot enough. You will know if it is hot enough because if you rub the aluminum brazing rod to the surface, it will smear and turn liquid and cling well to the aluminum pipe that you are working on. You have to rub the aluminum rod untill it builds up taking the flame away momentarily then putting it back on if it gets too hot. If you never done this before, practice on a piece of thin piece of aluminum first. With a little practice, you can repair many aluminum things in the house too. Even an aluminum radiator or the condenser or the evaporator in your cars a/c. Those aluminum brazing rods are actually harder than aluminum so the repair is permanent if done right, but they melt at lower temperature than aluminum. All these item can be bought at ace hardware. Home depot and lowes stopped carrying them in my area. So good luck and have fun on your new found money saving skill. Remember "clean surface" and get it hot enough first" Note* If the hole is too close to the rubber hose, wrap some wet rag to the pipe close to the rubber so that heat will not damage the hose.

Silver solder, it's sold at the ac supply house. You should be able to buy it by the stick instead of a whole tube.

How to replace evaporator coil on rs267labp?


you will have to have soldering skill with a oxygen acetylene brazing torch.. first remove the coils either cutting the lines or aplying heat to the conection, they will come loose. then position the new coil and braze weld if its copper to copper use silver brazing if its steel to copper, or steel to steel you will have to use bronze rods.. however if the joint shall be aluminum to any other metal you will have to do some research on tha one .. hope to be of help...

Trying to pull hard against the wind and cuts out but with no wind it runs good?


If you are running a straight pipe you will need to create some back pressure in it. Any type of small baffle will do. Back in my day we brazed a 1/8" soft steel rod to two edges of a washer then drilled two slightly larger holes 1/4" from the end of the pipe. Then heated the rod to shape it a bit and then inserted the stem w/ washer into the end of the pipe. A slight dent was then put in the pipe to index the rod position. Below is a rough bit of artwork that will show the "snuff knob" in the snuff position. For the city it can be turned "open" to allow unrestricted exhaust when slower speeds do not create excess wind.
