why fuel pump relay if pump staying on and working relay is working --if pump is doing the surging high and low look at pump possible failure --if vehicle is surging start looking into a tune up or fuel delivery --pump , injectors-- etc
Check fuel pressure. Bad pumps will work, just not enough pressure. If the engine light is on, check codes. Your's has a fuel pressure sensor and module that could go bad.
Might be wise to check fuses and determine why dash lights don't work. Can you hear fuel pump run? Have you checked fuel pump fuse and relay? Often when a pump fails it has been drawing extra amps for some time prior to failing, which can harm the relay. If possible, hook up a fuel pressure gauge and insure you have correct pressure. Also be aware that some cheap parts store fuel pimps are junk, and may not work even when new. Also, did you clean the gunk out of the tank?
not sure on falcon but on many ford models they use a plastic impeller in the fuel pump .. that works fine until you run out of gas .. that could be just rounding a corner with the gas low ... once the pump runs dry the impeller is damaged quickly and you have just lost an expensive fuel pump .. if the pump jambs then it will likely blow the fuel pump fuse ...you can check with a voltmeter to see if you are getting power back there .. if so and it still doesn't work then start looking for a new pump ..its not a safe job changing the pump in some models .. really hard if the tank is full ..
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. As far as testing it goes you will need a fuel pressure gauge and a test light. Connect the pressure gauge to the test port on the fuel rail. If I remember correctly on older Plymouths you have to tie in the pressure gauge to the fuel line. Make sure to tie it in to the supply line. Next turn the key on but do not start it. Check the gauge to see if you have fuel pressure. If you do then the pump is working. If not use the test light to make sure you have power to the pump.

1 take wire off pump and fir to 2 or more head light globes and leave on for 12minutes if lights stay on then its not the wiring or overheating wireing or relay. so remove the pump and before replacing recheck on the earth wire to fuel tank and if not sure fit your oun wire from chassis or body to fuel tank ,then fit the new pump...
possible bad fuel pump. check fuel pump relay under hood. drivers side fuse panel. swap fuel pump relay with another identical relay to rule out possible bad relay. listen for whining sound back by fuel tank. the fuel pump is in the fuel tank. Another option....you can also check the pressure in the fuel rail, but be careful not to squirt gas in your eyes or face.
