While running bike just cut off and will not fire now it will turn over but its like it is not firing at all
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.
I have a 1989 Suzuki GS500E. We are in winter here and it always starts first turn of the key with a little choke.
Today I started it after not having started for 3 days - no problem, it fired up first turn of the key, After a few seconds I turned off the choke and gave it a few high revs to warm up the engine quicker [this I had always done on my previous bike a Honda Rebel].
All of a sudden the bike stopped and wouldn't start [turn over okay, but not firing]. I checked the plugs, which are only about 3 weeks old, to see if flooded, but they were fine.
I went inside house for 2 hours and then tried again - no success. The only thing I did do was to take off the seat so as to tighten the pillion passenger grab rail. other than that I didn't do anything. I have not had ANY problems before - I am mystified as to what the problem could be.
Can anyone please tell me where to look for the problem.
Kind regards,
Dennis
Fuses. kill switch corroded. is there power to coils,
SOURCE: bike runs in neutral but cuts out when a gear is selected.
Your sidestand switch kills the engine if the bike is put in gear with the sidestand down. If your stand is up and this is happening either the switch is broken or out of position. If it is broken you can twist the wires together until you can replace the switch. If it is just bent out of position you can bend it back carefully.
SOURCE: NO SPARK
most likely you have a CDI box failure. the easiest way to find out tho is take it to a dealer and have them run a diagnostic test, usually around 60$ find out whats wrong and depending on the problem have them fix it or tackle the issue yourself.

check kill switch, then battery for full voltage, 12.5V Check fuses and wiring for loose connections.
If you have the wiring diagram check ignition switch, do the simple stuff, before you start replacing coils or sending units on the ignition system.

Proper oil is very important to wet clutches.Check to see if the oil is proper.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, try starting with the clutch lever pulled in and / or the sidestand folded up. Additionally, determine if there is a clicking sound. If there is, then it would most likely be the starter solenoid.
Good luck and thank yu for asking FixYa.
