Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

There are petrol at the inlet of the carburator, the float is fine but no petrol inside the carburator. Engine starts when fuel is added to carburator but lasts for about one min and stops.

Engine was done over, every thing is fine. Engine starts if petrol is added to carburaror but it seems as if the petrol does not go through to the engin by the carborator Engine will run for about one min with petrol added to carburator. Water came into carburator after engine gascet got damaged.

There is a blockage in the carb. you really need to pull it apart and clean, use carb cleaner which is a water repellant if available. i am presuming petrol is flowing from fuel pipe ok.

I have been working on my carb today, the pipe from the bottom of the carb should just run down by the bottom of the swinging arm, there should be another pipe from the pipe on the left side of the carb just above the fuel intake which also runs down to the swinging arm and connect to nothing.

SOURCE: Fuel from engine breather pipe

There are just three ways for fuel to get into the top end. As mentioned, bad valve guides (exhaust guides are just as old as the intake guides). Bad rings with raw fuel getting past the rings. Either way, fuel is getting up there. Time for a valve job and fresh bore with new pistons and rings. If able to find the parts, I would also install new cam chain and tensioner. You have a very early CB450. Today's VIN numbers have 17 numbers. That is what didn't seem right.
Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. I already checked and a lot of parts are available for your bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock.
You can also Google 'vintage motorcycle parts honda" and find stuff there.

the bike can run on unleaded but it will be rough .
you mwill have loss of power and radical .
what i would suggest is to ask a mechanic about the effects of unleaded petrol to an old engin .
all i know is that the bike will run as i did it to my old BMW and all i had to do is replace some gaskets .
Best of luck .

Yes, the float or the float needle is sticking in an open position. The only other possibility is a float that has a pinhole in it and has filled with petrol and will no longer float as it should.

The carb has to be serviced. Could be clogged filter to the carb reservoir or the float system needle is stuck closed. The reservoir has a float similar to a toilet cistern.

I have rebuilt the carburetor on a 16HP Briggs and Stratton Vagaurd. But can not get gas to engine, it runs when I pour gas in the carburator, What could be the issue.

Have you checked to make sure the float level is set correctly, or that the float isn't sticking, not allowing fuel in?
Are you pouring fuel into the top of the carby, or syphoning it in via the fuel inlet?

When I start my pressure washer on full choke it works fine when I place choke in wide open position gas runs out of the carburetor.what could be wrong.the engine issas by Briggs and Stratton.

You need to take the float bowl off the carb from the bottom . You haven't given a lot of information about who did what to the carburator but somebody must have screwed with the float pisition for this to be happening . The way all carburtors work is the same you have the float bowl and the floats and on top of the floats is a valve called the needle valve. Now the neddle valve is there to stop the flow of fuel into the float bowl when the engine is not in a high damand cycle for fuel like start up or ideal the choke shuts the air off and gives more fuel at start up .However when the engine is running and the float bowl is being filled by gravity feed from the gas tank the floats will move up do to the amount of fuel in the float bowl and should shut the fuel from the gas tank off to the float bowl until the engine can burn the fuel and drop the float level enough to make the neddle valve open again to supply more fuel for the engine to run correctly its a never ending cycle . You need to adjust the floats and likely clean the carburator don't mess with adjustments there mostly automatic when the engine is running

My yamaha 80cc motorcycle runs fast then shuts down

Hi, if it starts again after a litle wile ,then you must have a petrol level inside the carburator tha is to low. in the fuel chamber you find a buoy that controls the amount of petrol coming into the carburator. If this level is to low you just run out of fuel after a fast ride.
Also you must check that your gas tank "breathes" so air can go in as fuel comes out, otherwise it will stop fuel from running due to a vacuum process.
Good luck

The motor wont start it seems to just pour petrol in to the engine the spakk plug drips fuel , it has a good spark when the plug is dry

Your carburator float is probably sticking you should probably buy a carburator rebuild kit or take it to a small engines mechanic

Fuel pump is pumping fuel to carb, but no fuel going into carburator. can dump gas directly into carb and car will fire up. is there some kind of pump not functioning inside carburator

there is a float valve. There may also be a filter on the inlet. First check for filter, then remove top from float bowl to see why fuel isn't flowing in. You may want to get a rebuild kit. they aren't expensive and they usually come with instructions.
