2000 Ford Escort stuck in 3rd gear

It Started with it jumping out of 3rd gear, then one day on the way to town it got stuck in 3rd. Do I need a new transmission or it there a simple fix?

the 4th gear shift solenoid locks the gear into place
It is weak now so a replacement is needed
It is located inside the transmission and is easy to access it once the bottom pan is removed

THE GEAR LINKAGE WILL HAVE JUMPED OUT OF ALIGNMENT, ITS A 10mm af spanner to fix it you should see where it was originally placed by the marks on the selector rod linkage.it needs two person job one under the car with the spanner and one positioning the gear lever.

Transmission problems (gear linkage)
The gear linkages are not correctly aligned.
Is the gearbox mounting in exactly the same place as when you removed it?
Even a 1/4 inch will offset the gears.
