I just bought a used 2003 ducati 999 from a dealer and had also bought one year warranty from him, I will contact him tomorrow. Anyways here is the scenario: I purchased it around 3pm, came back home riding for 20miles and parked, then again tried starting it after an hour, and it cranked for first few times and then after trying for few more times I heard a loud sound fumes coming out around the headlight region. After that I am rarely getting crank sound while clicking the ignite switch, my battery volt is showing around 11.4 while turning key to ON position and after leaving it for an hour it is now reading 10.4. I found out the Error code is 4.1. Its night now and I will see what my dealer say?????? What do you guys suggest..............

you need to get a battery tender, and when you put your new battery in it has connections that will stay on your battery and you just plug it in after you are done riding and cleaning her. oh one more thing when you get a new battery you need to charge it for 8 to 12 hours before using it, they are not like a car battery buy it, put it in, and go, you have to charge them up first. The tender should keep you battery charge all winter long. I hope this helps you. One more thing, 749's do not like weak batteries as you have found out. Buy a new one, install a tender and and use it, the battery will last much longer.

well what you did there was start it but the fans still need the ignition switch to turn on all the electronics. for the starting problem, check the wiring from the battery to the relay. or even the actual ignition switch in the bars. see if the button is bad, that has been a small problem if the internal workings in the button get coroded or get miss aligned.

check the cambelts on your bike, make sure they havent jumped a tooth on the timing.

SOURCE: motorcycle battery seems dead, help locating/replacing/charging
Yes it is the battery. First try charging it with trickle charger. NOT car battery charger. It should work fine once it is charged enough to start the bike. Than the bikes should keep it charged. Or you can jump it with car battery. This is safe. THe motorcyle battery is also 12 volts. Just smaller.
After the bike runs for 5-10 minutes and shut if off. Wait 5-10 minutes after it is off and try again. If it does not start again, than your battery is either dead or your stator/rectifier (your charge system) could be faulty. Lot cheaper to get battery for $30 than to pay $75 hourly shop fees for testing and than repairing.
SOURCE: I just bought a Ducati 695, but it has no keys.
As per Manual your dealer is right, once 'RED' key is gone, you need to
replace ECU, instrument panel and ignition switch assembly.
Unless the second dealer is hacking the ECU/ducati security does not
seems like they can get you a key but if they can it will not be a safe key...
