Hi Dalemcin,
I had simillar problem,
what I did is I checked the level of fluid in battery and noted that it was drain ( probably evaporated, because the weather temp. where I live is above 40 C) so I replenished the battery with destilled water. Now it works perfect.

SOURCE: battery keeps going dead

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To your query, there are 2 major components of the charging system:

  • stator - left side of the engine itself;
  • regulator - right side, below the seat; would be behind the chrome cover below the battery.

A common problem with a VStar is burned, pitted or corroded terminal pins/connectors from the stator to the regulator.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Check for clean, corrosion-free wiring connections (especially at the battery) and don't forget grounds! They are as important as the hot side. You may find this to be of help:

I have a 2003 Yamaha v star 1100. Just put a new battery. Bike will not start after 2 days of riding. Battery sounds like it is drained. It will not start. Someone told me the recharging system is not...

Simplest way to see if your charging system is working is to get your hands on a meter(you should have one to do troubleshooting) and while the bike is running see what the voltage reading is at the battery terminals.Have someome take the bike off idle and run the RPM up and observe the voltage.Typically your charging system should be putting in anything from 12.5 to 14 volts DC.If not your stator isn't up to par.If it seems to be charging check your terminals and your ground strap for good clean connections.If these are good you have a short to ground somewhere in the system and that meter is going to become very handy in tracking it down good luck

2009 Yamaha V Star 1100 will not start. No power @ all. Charged battery. Still nothing. HELP! It has been sitting through winter....Only has 4k miles on it.

Hi and welcome to the site,

Initially, have the battery load tested and externally charged.

Offhand, check the main fuse. It would be inside the starter relay housing.

Good luck and thank you for asking.
