If you bought this new there should be directions and relatively simple, as long as it's made for a Harley

SOURCE: How to remove 2008 Harley softail seat

Usually the two seat halves bolt together underneath the main seat. The main seat is held on by two large bolts that take a hex key wrench to get the bolts out. One bolt on each side. 3/8" hex key or allen wrench. Good luck.

Seat removal on 2009 harley softail deluxe

To install slide the retention nut over the tapered end of a cable tie strap so
that the larger O.D. of the nut rests on cable tie strap eyelet, then from the bottom of the rear fender feed the cable tie strap up through the fender hole, with the tab on the retention nut seated in the notch in the fender hole pull up on the cable tie strap to locate the nut snug up against the underside of the rear fender and then from the side opposite the tab i.e. from the rear of the fender slide the retention washer onto the nut which will lock it in place.

The FXST/FXSTB seat attaches with a single thumbscrew on the seat bracket. When installing a seat insert the tang at the front of the seat into the channel in the frame and install the single rear thumbscrew which Harley- Davidson has a special tool for which I have never even seen, pn HD-47190.

The FXSTC seat attaches with two fasteners through the sissy bar. When installing the seat the tang at the front of the seat is inserted into the channel in the frame and the two rear fasteners go through the and get tightened to 60-80 in-lbs (6.8-9.0Nm).

The FXCW/FXCWC Solo Seat is attached with 2 locating pins that for removal must be removed from their grommets by lifting the rear of the seat, then the seat is pulled to the rear to disengage the tongue from the frame. To install the seat put it on the frame, slide the seat forward until the tongue locks into the bracket, push the seat forward to align the two locating pins with their grommets and then push the seat down to engage the locating pins.
The FXCWC rider Seat is removed by tipping the seat up and towards the fuel tank, the two fasteners are removed and the seat is then taken off the bike. Do the reverse to install the seat and tighten the fasteners to 90-110 in-lbs (10.2-12.4 Nm).
The FXCWC Passenger Seat Support is removed by tipping the rider seat up and towards thefuel tank removing the two screws and washers from one pillion support, removing the pillion support and the rear seat pillion, then removing the remaining pillion support. To install it install one pillion support but do not tighten its fasteners, install the wave washer and bushing on each pillion support, install the pillion and the second pillion support and tighten all of the fasteners to an initial torque of 30-35 ft-lbs (40.7-47.5 Nm), then loosen the fasteners and then final tighten them to 38-42 ft-lbs(51.5-56.9 Nm), check the rider seat operation and then lower the rider seat into position and engage the locating pins into their
grommets.

To remove the FLSTN/FLSTF/FLST/FLSTC seat remove the passenger seat and seat mounting fasteners. When installing the seat insert the tang at the front of the seat into the channel in the frame and install the seat mounting nuts, then install the passenger seat.

To remove the FLSTSB seat remove the screw from the seat hinge at the front of the seat, raise the rear of the seat only slightly during removal or installation because pivoting the rear of the seat up too high can cause the nose of the seat to damage the leather trim panel on the fuel tank., to disengage the springs from the seat spring mounting pins and remove the seat. To install the FLSTB seat align the seat hinge with the mounting bracket on the frame, insert the screw into the seat hinge from the right side of the motorcycle and tighten it to 14-16 ft-lbs (19.0-21.7Nm), align the bushings on the seat springs with the mounting pins and push the rear of the seat down to engage the seat spring mounting pins. The seat position may be adjusted forward or rearward for rider comfort by removing the seat, removing the nut on the seat hinge, removing the bolts from the seat spring support bracket, (the seat hinge and seat spring support bracket must be installed in the same position in either a forward or a rearward configuration for the seat to fit properly on the motorcycle). To position seat forward install the hinge with the front tab in the slot, install the seat spring support bracket with the springs toward the rear of the seat. AND to position the seat rearward install the hinge with the rear tab in the slot and install the seat spring support bracket with the springs toward the front of the seat., THEN install the nut on the seat hinge and tighten it to 20-25 ft-lbs (27.1-33.9 Nm), install the screws for the seat spring support bracket and tighten them to 15-20 ft-lbs (20.3-27.1 Nm) and then install the seat.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the passenger seat\'s mounting bolt, positioned on
the rear of the seat, using a socket wrench and a 10 mm socket. Lift the
passenger seat up and away from the rider\'s seat.

    • 2

Flip the passenger seat upside down and place it on a clean
work area. Pry out the seat cover\'s staples from the bottom of the seat
pan with a small pry bar or staple puller. Pull off the vinyl cover and
remove the foam from the seat pan.

    • 3

Flip the seat pan over. Place the Utopia back rest bar over
the top of the seat pan, following the contours of seat pan. Center the
bar in the middle of the pan, then mark the location of the bar\'s
mounting holes on the seat pan with a permanent marker. Remove the back
      rest bar.

    • 4

Drill two holes into the seat pan at the marked locations,
using an electric drill and a 9/32-inch drill bit. Place the back rest
bar onto the seat pan. Screw the kit\'s bolts and lock washers through
the bottom of the pan and into the back rest bar. Tighten the bolts with
a 10 mm socket and a socket wrench.

    • 5

Lay the seat\'s foam next to the seat pan. Mark the
approximate location of the back rest bar\'s protruding neck at the front
of the seat onto the foam with a permanent marker. Cut a slit into the
foam at the marked area, using a sharp knife. Place the foam over the
seat pan and push the bar\'s neck through the foam\'s newly cut slit.

    • 6

Place the vinyl cover over the seat foam and pan. Pull the
cover tight around the sides of the seat and staple it into place, using
a heavy-duty staple gun. Cut a slit into the seat cover with a razor to
allow the back rest bar\'s neck to extend outward. Remove the paper
backing from the plastic boot included with the back rest kit. Slide the
boot over the bar\'s neck and hold it firmly in place for 30 seconds.

    • 7

Reinstall the passenger seat on the motorcycle and tighten
its bolt with a 10 mm socket. Place the back rest over the bar\'s neck on
the passenger seat. Slip a bolt through the backrest\'s mounting holes
and into the tube on the bar\'s neck. Loosely screw a nut onto the end of
the bolt. Adjust the angle of the back rest, then tighten the bolt and
nut using a 10 mm socket and a 10 mm wrench.

How do i remove the seat on a 1998 honda 800cc

Hi,
Behind the chrome helmet holder is a black l bracket. The bracket faces the bike. Turn the key like your going to put your helmet on the chrome bracket but instead reach behind it and pull the black bracket down. You'll hear the rear of the passenger seat click and the seat will lift slightly. Pull it up and back from the rear and it'll slide out. iIf you have a sissy bar (sorry, old school) you don't need to take it off. You'll see the plastic tool case holder. Between it and the front seat, are the bolts for the front seat. You can use a socket at an angle and they'll come off (be carefull not to drop them into the bike frame where they could get lost or damage something. You then lift the front seat from the back and it slides out like the back seat.

What do the number guage on the seat bracket mean to adjust the seat over the pole? I don't have installation instructions? what is the best number setting

The etched guage is for your reference once you've set it and so you can reporoduce it if you remove the seat for any reason. You adjust, you try it out, you readjust if necessary. YOUR preferred riding position will not be found on a chart or in a manual.

I am having trouble adjusting shoulder straps

Funny, I was just putting this seat back together after taking it apart to wash it. It is a very difficult process, simply because you have to remember which order to loop the buckles through the stap.

First, I assume you want to switch from the lower holes for the shoulder, to the upper. (If not, then there is no adjustment needed. Unless the strap is caught in the back which will make the straps uneven when you go to tighten them. This has happened to me).

So, first you need to remove the straps. Once the seat is removed from the car, look at the back of the seat and you will see a metal bracket that is holding three straps. The bottom strap is not removable from that bracket. The top two strap are attached to the bracket with loops. Remove the straps by sliding them out (edge of the strap has to come out the hole first, then the rest will slide out very easily), Once out, from the front of the seat, pull the strap through the holes

At this point you must decide whether you simply want to adjust the seat, or wash it too. I highly suggest washing it if you haven't done so recently. If you gone this far, go all the way. But since you only asked to adjust it, and the method for removing the cover is much more complicated, we''ll move on to adjusting

Now that you have the straps pulled through, be sure that the straps are not twisted, and simply push them through the desired holes - upper or lower - and reconnect to the loops brace (remember, edge in first).

If you are having problems with the straps not being even when tightened (one side tight on shoulder, other side loose), remove the seat and look to see if the strap is caught on something.

I'm retiring my seat today after six years and two kids. I could use it up to 80lbs, but it makes it difficult to get to the third row of seats in my car. So now we have two no-back boosters.
