Carburator cleaning My bike will start but not tick over or rev?

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2013

Many thanks Scott, but my problem is NOT the throttle cable, my guess is that the carburator has aquired some dirt and needs cleaning?

Probably my bad composition of question but Tick-Over is where the engine is idling.

I dont know what you mean by tick, but the lack of the engine revving is most likely the throttle cable is broken or has became discontented at one end or the other.

My mini moto dirt bike has a brand new engine in it, the bike will start and tick over for a short while then when you rev it, it cuts out can anyone help?

Check the spark plug first, for carbon, wet. For the time being, use one step hotter plug to guard against fouling. 2 smoke motors when run at lower speeds tend to be easier to foul a plug.

Engine cuts out on low revs

If your bike is carburator type then the carburator is dirty, clean it. If it is EFI or CDI then check the flow of the current.

I have a 125 pit bike and it ticks over fine but when you rev it it backfires does any body no how to fix it.

You can check ur values but some bike do make a we ticking from the values and it will back fire when revved up because of the extra fuel once revved that hasn't brine burn as it revs back down to idle speed.

Hi, I bought a brand new Keeway Outlook 125 jusy 5 weeks ago. Since I bought i had problems when starting it so they put in a new carburator that had a new automatic choke on it. I still have problems...

Is it normal that a new bike dies on you as you drive it? No way my friend. The carburetor should have a thermal-choke and it probably needs some adjustment.

When I rev the throttle it kills the bike. But

You carburator needs cleaning, or needs to be adjusted. Do you have fresh gas in the tank? Did you mess with the jets, or any adjustments on the carb? You're just not getting enough gas when you open the throtle, and having the Choke on will give you more gas.

Starts ticks over but won't rev

I had similar problem. I wound up taking the carb to a bike shop and letting them clean it. They had an ultrasound bath that they put it in. It's submerged in a solvent, then they shoot sound waves at it to loosen up stuff that a regular cleaning can't get to. After I did that, it ran like a top....For 3 1/2 years...Then I had to do it again.
