Hi Carlie,
Firstly, do you have the user manual for your radio? if the answer is no, then see my advice further down the page.
If you've got the user manual, but you don't have the cable and software to clone, then read below.
To get a copy of the user manual, schematic diagrams and software, plus great info, join yahoo group SPECIFIC to your radio Make/Model, the techs there, will help you through the steps to a cloning process, don't be afraid to ask questions, because the less questions asked, the less info the can send. It's free to join and free to download, I know, I'm a member of another radio group.
I hope this has answered your query and steered you to a solution.
With warm regards,
Peter

Normally: The Power supply is underrated, drawing too much power. Scan: mic (Button) needs to be hung (Grounded)?
SOURCE: how to clone a kenwood TK 3160
Ok. I have looked through the service manual for both the 2160 and 3160 and can not find anything that indicates that you can clone with just a cloning cable and not use software. However the 2170 and 3170 say to turn the power on While pressing the B button which yours doesn't have. Try turing on the radio while pressing any one of the side buttons.
Hope this helps.
P.S. The software is reasonably easy to get and IS much easier to use.. dan
