RX 300 Transmission will not change gears nor engage reverse

My wife's informed me that her car would **** when it changed gears. I drove it then noticed that it would change gears at hi RPMs. A couple of days later the car did go beyond the first gear nor would it engage reverse. It is a 2002 RX 300. The transmission was rebuilt 5 years ago and the filter and fluid were last changed 2.5 years ago. Initially I thought it was due to an electronic issue so I disconnected the battery to reset the computer. It did not work. The fluid was is good condition however there were metal shavings in the pan. Not too much though.

Took it to a shop and was told transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt. Apparently there was more shavings tin the fluid than I initially thought.

Check transmission fluid levelif you see metal shaving in oil pan time for rebuilt if you see more than a table spoon full of shavings but i would change transmission fluid and filter.if engine running higher rpm on acceleration transmission is slipping.

SOURCE: 1993 LEXUS 300 -OVERHEATED-REPLACED THERMOSTAT.

Either it one heck of a coincidence or the trans is somehow associated with or to the water temp.. The only way I know of is the transmission oil cooling. Ck the trans fluid level and onsider having the trans service.Oil change and filter and confirm or ask about the relationship of cooland and trans, if there is any. Good Luc and please let me know what you find out. Thanks Ned

SOURCE: 2002 RX 300

I have a 2001 RX 300 and mine has done the same thing. The first time it happened the dealer had me bring it in. It was under warranty, and they replaced something, which I can't remember. Then it happened a year or so ago, and the service rep at the dealership told me that her car does the same thing, and I should just let it reboot itself in a day or so. It did it two days ago driving back from a long trip. The service rep said to bring it in because she didn't know what was going on (I think she was new).

It's now resolved itself again. It must be a fluke with the model, but I don't worry about it.

1995 gmc Yukon. Reverse will not engage. It just revs. All other gears work/drive fine.

No reverse on this model almost always means a cracked cage in the transmission.Good news is you just have to have the cage changed and not much else and all should be fine and won't cost too much.

I just changed the knock sensor on my lexus rx 300 now the second and third gear dont have a smooth change also gear all of a sudden is not going into the 4th gear

Knock sensor controls ignition timing. It should have no control on transmission shifting. Did you disconnect/remove anything else to access the knock sensor? Was the battery disconnected? If so, a relearn procedure may be required for trans module etc relearn shift points while you drive the vehicle

Why is my lexus rx 300 not going into gear 5

This could be caused by a variety of things.....but, coolant temperature is a significant input to the transmission control module for the overdrive gear engagement. If the transmission ECU determines the engine is not coming up to operating temperature, it will delay the engagement of the overdrive. There is also the possibility that the throttle position sensor has an issue as well....is the check engine lamp illuminated??? A scan of the engine control module and the trans module is in order....a good tech. will be able to discover the cause very quickly!

My Lexus rx 300 won;t engage gears after spilling

The oil pump in the trans most likely blew. You will need a shop to look at this.

When i try and back up my RX 300 wont go in reverse

does the lever nbot go physically into the position,or does it indicate but not move?check the linkage at the transmission.i would put the unit on a hoist ,disconnect the linkage at the transmission, then move it and see if the gears work.if they do,there is a shift lever/linkage problem.

2003 ford windstar

Check your transmission fluid level if at all possible. If your fluid is low you won't be able to engage any gears as there isn't enough pressurized fluid to shift the clutch or selector in the transmission box. If that's fine, next check the selector link and check it is connected to the transmission (not totally unheard of for it to come loose). Still no joy then it's the clutch...sorry.
