SOURCE: lights bulbs in tach and speedo

The tach and speedo are their own separate unit.  There is no changeable light bulb.  You may want to check your light and instrument fuses.  If those are working, I would remove the outer fairing and check the connections to your tach and speedo.

The pink wire goes to the pink eng rpm signal wire coming from the ecm. Go to the stealership and ask 'em to show you where it is.

I'd say that you have an intermittant short somewhere. These are very difficult to find. I'd start at the tail light assembly as most of the time, I've found the shorts in that area, from the seat back to the tail light assembly.

Good Luck

Where is tach signal source on my 2006 ultra?i want to wire in a shift light. - thx

The source wire should be a pink wire. The location should be under the fairing. It will have a white plastic bullet type connector on it. I believe it's on the top by the speedo if it's been installed. If not then the pin location on the speedo should be said in the directions, and a long pink wire usually comes with it. You have to pull the speedo plug off and install the pin in the connector.

2009 Harley Davidson Softail Custom FXSTC speedo quit working @

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Contaminated or faulty speed sensor.
2. Faulty turn signal module.
3. Corroded, broken or loose connector pins/sockets in the wire harness between the speedometer and the ECM or TSSM and the sensor.
4. The speedometer unit has failed.
5. Speedometer instrument fuse has blown.
