Try a new plug, If not, the pulser coil in the LH motor cover is the first to check. take a resistance test of the pulser where the wires come out of the motor (Unplugged). Forget the 3 white, they are only for charging, The other 4 are the pulsers, 2 for each. I don't have the color codes, But they should both have the same resistance reading, 100~330 ohms. If one pair is wayoff from the other, That coil is bad. Ignition coils under the tank & black boxes, VERY SELDOM go bad.
Sounds like your regulator/rectifier or your CDI box. I would think regulator, because the bike is still running. Check to see what your charging system is putting out. If it is low, or really high it is the rectifier.
