Question about 2000 Moto Guzzi California Jackal

Troubleshooting moto guzzi stone

This is fuel injected bike, and usually runs fine, no problems. However, every once in awhile, it acts as though its having a fuel or electrical problem. It will suddenly start to lose power. If I apply more throttle, it will just start to choke and sputter and lose more power. If I pull over to the side of the road, with the clutch disengaged, I can rev up the engine, no problem. But, as soon as I try to put a load on it, it stalls again. If I shut the bike off, and let the bike sit, it will eventually start and run normally. I could go a hundred miles before it happens again, or it could happen in the next 30 miles. Today, it started out fine, but if I try to accelerate too quickly, it wants to shut down. If I accelerated gradually it got up to the speed I wanted and cruised along smoothly. If it had a carburetor, I'd say that the float wasn't adjusted properly, but its fuel injected. Any thoughts?

Just a thought as you asked...sounds like a poor throttle position potentiometer ... throttle cabled to butterfly most likely and if ECU dosen't know throttle plate moved you will see this symptom . If electric throttle , can you see(hear) plate moving whilst twisting , if so measure resistance/voltage on pot. . I do not know if resistance of position sensor can be measured while twisting throttle or pushing plate (bike off , battery disconnected or ignition off)

These are infamous for side stand switches that allow the bike to shut off and more importantly not start when side stand is down. Even worse is that it can activate even with side stand up. So either pull it off and short it out or clean up the connections.

2015 Moto Guzzi v 7 special is rough idling and exhaust pipe is heating up to red hot?

Could be running way to lean and the fuel may have too much alcohol or water or the injectors may be clogged/restricted.

Hi, my 1981 moto guzzi sp1000 backfires constantly. it seems to run smooth when I apply the choke. any ideas ? I have stripped the carbs cleaned them and set the float height.

If both cylinders are involved then it has to be a fuel delivery problem or a timing problem. If you have checked the timing (valve and ignition) then it's fuel and it applies to both cylinders (I'm assuming here). The tank valve may be gummed up. Flow may be restricted.
If it isn't both cylinders then it will likely be a carb problem on the bad side. Go through that carb again.

If you are good with wrenches and screwdrivers, yes you can, there are loads of parts for your bike out there. Get a book, get the clutch parts, get it ready for spring.

Our Moto Guzi Nevada is surging all the time and has been back to a dealer several times and they cant find out what it wrong with it. · Inspect for running rough etc + put on axone scan tool + test...

I am not a Moto Guzi mechanic but in the world of Japanese bikes the problem would be trash in the carb partially blocking the main jet and / or internal fuel circuits. Tighten all fittings, carb to manifold as air leaks could be contributing to the problem. If your bike has fuel injection, have the fuel pump checked. Be sure the gas tank venting is not plugged whether carb or injection. Check and clean the filter screens on the pickup tubes inside the gas tank. Be certain the exhaust pipes are clear of obstructions. An internal collapse inside an exhaust pipe can restrict air flow. The bike can not run properly if it can't get rid of burned gasses. Remove the exhaust pipes briefly to eliminate the exhaust system as a problem. I guess I should mention the obvious, how clean is the air filter? Bikes gotta breathe in and out too. If these ideas don't help, just re-post the problem and perhaps someone else has an idea. Best wishes.

Some thing is wrong with the fuel relay it runs well but then starves for gas and quits running

How long does he have to wait to restart the bike? Does the bike stall when riding it? It sounds like your carb needs cleaning.
