Hi Anonymous, you could have a faulty sending unit or guage, there could be a problem with your wiring. On models with the fuel gauge posing as a left hand fuel cap the gauge is a press fit do not try to unscrew it, simply ample force lift up in a rocking motion to remove gauge. Disconnect wires to the gauge and with a set of positive and negative jumpers from the battery connect the positive jumper and flash the negative, gauge should peg full, if not replace gauge. With a test light check for power to the sending unit, then remove the sending unit and manually operate the float arm slowly with the correct wiring hooked up to the fuel gauge and sending unit and the ignition on, the gauge should respond accordingly if not replace the float arm assembly. I believe they could. Possibly not the fenders, but the tank, that's a probability. Check the mounts, and take some measurements of tank length on the bottom.

SOURCE: how to change oil in 2003 HD FXD Dyna Super Glide

remove the drain plug from the oil pan, you will need either a 3/4" box wrench or a 5/8" box wrench and the drain plug will be facing forward on the the oil pan. It is easiest to remove this drain plug from under the right side of the bike. put drain plug back in after about 10 m,inutes of drain time and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. Dont forget to change the oil filter as well.

SOURCE: Where's the oil drain plug on 2004 Dyna Super

Underneath the engine/trans assembly. There are 2. One for the transmission oil and one for the engine oil. Make sure you replace the "O" ring when you remove the plug(s) or it will most likely leak a bit.

2012 Harley Davidson Dyna Glide Super Glide Custom cuts out intermittently

Hi, John and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery must have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Faulty alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Faulty main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Faulty system relay or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Faulty CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Fuel tank empty
11. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
13. Quick disconnect check ball stuck.
14. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
15. Faulty fuel pump.
16. Faulty pressure regulator.
17. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.
18. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.
19. Catastrophic engine failure, perform a compression test.

Fuel gauge is inoperative

Check for 12 volts at the orange wire on the fuel gauge. If missing check instrument fuse and associated wiring. If present do the following checks:

1. Remove gauge. Ground Y/W wire of fuel gauge sender located at bottom of gauge. Turn ignition switch ON.

a. Fuel gauge must indicate FULL. If gauge indicated FULL, gauge is functioning correctly and go to step 2.

b. If gauge did not indicate FULL, proceed to step 3.

2. Set MULTI-METER to resistance scale to measure the resistance of the sending unit. Place one probe on Y/W and the other probe on a good ground.

a. If fuel tank is full, the reading should be 40 ohms. An empty tank should have a 240 ohm resistance. A half full tank will be pproximately 97-118 ohms.

b. If a very high resistance or infinity is indicated on the meter, the sender may be "open" or not grounded. Check that sender and fuel tank are grounded by placing one probe of Multi-Meter on sender ****** and the other probe on crankcase. Meter must indicate one ohm or less. Replace sender if one ohm or less was present. If a higher resistance is present, check for poor connection on ground wire.

Fuel filter on 04 dyna supe glide where is it

Hi Anonymous, if you have a carburator the fuel filter is on top of the fuel valve. If you are injected, depending on your year and model, the fuel filter is is either connected to the pressure regulator on early models or has it's own housing that the pressure regulator fits into and clips to the top plate of the fuel tank late models. Good luck

My fuel gauge on my F350 2005 is stuck on full just started this. whats most likely the gauge are fuel sending unit.

The sender is more likely to fail. If you disconnect the sender electrical connector near the tank, you can ground the sender lead to see if the gauge goes to empty, indicating that the gauge and wiring are OK.

BMW X5 fuel guage doesn't register

hi will, it sounds like one or both of the fuel sending units has failed. the sender on the passenger side is responsible for reading empty to 1/2 tank, and the one on the driver's reads 1/2 to full. if the passenger sender is stuck down or failed, it could read empty when the tank is full. the senders are a pain to install correctly due to the installation angle. I have even seen techs at the dealer install them and have to reinstall them. i would recommend having both of the senders tested.
